Randy Johnson: Big Number for the Big Unit

Joshua PogueJun 5, 2009

So the Big Unit got his 300th win.  Now what?

I am a Randy Johnson fan...well, I should say I was.

Randy Johnson used to be a name that struck fear into the game's best hitters.  However, he is a shell of his former self.

Randy Johnson has never regained the dominance he had when he won his last Cy Young Award in 2002.  It begs the question, when do guys know when enough is enough?

Sticking around past 40 seems to be the trend in baseball.  Some guys get away with it (Nolan Ryan), while some just tarnish their legacy (Ricky Henderson).

Gary Sheffield was so set on getting his 500th home run this season he was begging for someone to pick him up.

So he signs with a National League team?  He cannot play the outfield anymore without getting hurt.

And since he hit that historic home run, how many has he hit since? Four. Four home runs and only 108 Ab's.

I am happy for Johnson.  But does anyone think he is going to help the Giants get to the playoffs?  Not going to happen.  The Dodgers, as much as I hate to say it, are going to win that division with or without Manny.

Randy Johnson would have been a Hall of Famer without 300 wins. Five Cy Youngs! That is all that needs to be said.

The last few years have just made people forget how dominant he once was.
