Worcester Sharks Announce “Be a Leader” Community Service Day

WORCESTER—Worcester Sharks president and CEO Michael T. Lehr announced that in conjunction with the “Be a Leader” program, the Sharks are now accepting nominations by schools in Central Massachusetts for the second annual “Be a Leader” Community Service Day to take place in the fall of 2009.

Any school in central Massachusetts is welcome to submit a request for an exterior makeover of their school’s grounds. Parking lots, playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, exterior painting, street hockey rinks, and more!  The winning school will be announced in September of 2009.

Sharks players and staff will join the office of the law firm of Abigail Williams and Associates for the second annual “Be a Leader” Community Service Day in the fall of 2009.

Last year, the Sharks and the office of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates rolled up their sleeves and revamped the outside exterior and playgrounds of the Clark Street Elementary School in Worcester. The basketball court, playground, outside exterior of the school, parking lots, and street hockey rink were all refurbished by the Sharks players and staff.

“Our entire office is really excited about this event, and we encourage other local businesses to take the time and energy to help their community,” said Abby Williams, principal of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates.  “We hope to lead by example by rolling up our sleeves and getting things done. Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s leaders.”

About the “Be a Leader” Program

Created at the start of the 2007-08 season by the Worcester Sharks and the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates, the “Be a Leader” program is designed to provide students in fourth through sixth grade with leadership tips to enrich their lives as well as others around them. 

Sharks players, in addition to Finz, the Sharks’ mascot, will be present at the school assemblies, along with Principal Williams.

This exceptional “Be a Leader” program gathers students in a large assembly format where Sharks players, Sharks staff, and community leaders speak to students about leadership qualities and ways to better one’s life.

Each participant in the program receives one ticket to an upcoming 2008-09 regular season Sharks home game and a “Be a Leader” booklet, compliments of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates.
