The Giants Weekly Review: Week Two

Numan Al-ShammaJun 4, 2009

Finally, the pitching that I've expected the Giants to have has showed up. Sanchez, Lincecum, and Johnson all pitched well.  The Giants pitchers held the Diamondbacks to two runs all weekend! That's not two per game, that's two for the whole three game weekend.

Randy showed the fans why he has five Cy Youngs.  Tim was lights out!  And Sanchez—well, let me put it this way—you can't hit what you don't see!

Now, while you chalk these two wins out of three, don't forget the Giants struggled to score runs, as well.  They scored only four runs in 24 innings. One can say that the Giants are not as bad as we thought they were—or, are they?

One bad team against another doesn't really show us the true colors of either team, except, at the moment, San Francisco Giants are not the worse team in the west.

They played a clean three games.  See what happens when you play well in the field?

I think that this team really needs today off, because the Dodgers are coming in.  I'm chalking up a split here. I expect Cain to handle them well, while I don't expect much from Zito.  It's hard for me to give him a win, knowing full well that he has bad starts in April.

Don't believe me? Check out his years with the A's.

Talking about the A's, their young pitchers are showing us they can hold their own most of the time.  It's the offense that is not up to par.  Unlike the Giants, the A's made significant improvements to their lineup but have not held up to their end of the deal.  Giants fans, can you really call Renteria an improvement?

Nomar is back on the DL. Who didn't see this coming?  Yes, it's only the second week into the season, but come on and score runs!  Pitchers cannot go lights out and win without offensive production.

But, the year is still young, so maybe both Bay Area teams will pick up on the run scoring.  Giants need to at least split the Dodger series before heading out.  Like it or not, the Dodgers are the Giants' first real test at home.  Their whole lineup is on fire at the moment.  The Giants need to hose them down or they will be burned!
