First and 10: A Handful of Questions for Carolina's Steve Smith

Kenton MakinJun 2, 2009

Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith has proven to be one of the most dynamic receivers in the NFL. Here are 10 questions I would ask Smith if I had the opportunity:

1. The 69-yard touchdown catch you had against the St. Louis Rams in the 2003 NFL Playoffs is one of my favorite plays of all time. Where does it rank for you as far as career moments?

2. Your fight with Ken Lucas last year failed to drive a wedge between the team; the fight indirectly seemed to bring the Panthers closer together. What did you learn from that trying experience?

3. Last year's postseason loss to Arizona undoubtedly left a bad taste in the Panthers' mouths. Talk about your focus for this season, as well as any lingering thoughts from that game.

4. Additionally, you expressed confidence in Jake Delhomme after last year's loss, despite his five interceptions. Describe the relationship between yourself and Delhomme, and how you believe that relationship strengthens the Panthers as a team.

5. Fans root for their respective teams, but I'm curious to know—what teams do you root for?

6. Describe your relationship with Charlotte-based fans and those who support your style of play in general.

7. Where does your versatility in route-running (running across the middle, running go routes, etc.) come from, and do you believe that ability places you among the league's premier receivers?

8. You and a certain New York Giants receiver share the same name. Do you guys ever enjoy friendly banter about having the same name, and if so, who's the real Steve Smith?

9. Do you empathize with Julius Peppers and his current displeasure with the organization?

10. How many years do you believe you have left in the NFL?
