Sports Names That Make You Go Hmm.....

As sports fans, we are intrigued by baseball’s no hitter, the game winning shot at the buzzer, Princeton beating UCLA in the NCAA Tournament. All these things add to the beauty of sports.

It makes us turn on the television each day hoping we can notice one of these outcomes. As we all know sports are played by many different cultures throughout the world.

Whether it is international football, tennis, hockey, or even cricket we take a look at who makes the big play and how they did it. We as Americans are familiar with the last names of Jordan, Smith, and Johnson.

We are sometimes fascinated by the name on the back of the jersey. I have compiled a list of the ten greatest sports names in sports whether they were impact players, or just the 25th man on the baseball roster.

The names are in no typical order.

1. Dick Trickle- Trickle is a retired Nascar car driver who won a couple of NASCAR Busch series events. Trickle was the 1989 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year.
2. God Shammgod- The former Washington Wizards guard who played two years at Providence College and leading them to the Elite Eight in 1997. Shammgod was a former AAU teammate of Kobe Bryant.
3. World B. Free- Free is a former NBA basketball player who played from 1975-1988. He played for five different teams throughout his career. Free averaged over 20 points a game over his career.
4. Gregor Fucka- Hailing from the country of Slovenia. Fucka is an Italian league basketball player whose name definitely draws the ire of the crowd. The 7’1” big man is a former European basketball champion.
5. Antonio Bastardo- Bastardo is a current Philadelphia minor league pitcher. Baseball America has ranked him as the 11th best prospect in the Phillies organization.
6. Max Opamuratawongse- Opamuratawongse is a wide receiver for the Wake Forest Demon Decons. Supposedly his name was so long that he has to use long sleeve shirt so name could fit on the back of his jersey.
7. Usain Bolt- The man was born to be fast with this last name. The speedy Jamaican was one of the stars of the Beijing Summer Olympics.
8. Vagner Love- The most beloved man in all of soccer is currently a player for Russian Premier Team CSKA Moscow. He was the top scorer in 2008.
9. Coco Crisp- Crisp is the starting center fielder for the Kansas City Royals. Crisp was a key contributor to the 2007 World Champion Red Sox.
10. Brian Pinas- This Dutch soccer player is an easy name to remember regardless of what he does on the field. He currently plays for Dutch side FC Dordtrecht.
