Please Rain

Blake VandeBunteMay 28, 2009

My brother lives in Washington DC and has tickets to go see the Orioles and Tigers play tonight at Camden Yards.  I know the stadium is beautiful, I know this is a series the Tigers should win, but I really want tonight’s game to be canceled.

I know that would suck for my brother.  I know it may kill some momentum the Tigers have coming off of their series win over the Kansas City Royals.  I just don’t want Armando Galarraga to pitch tonight.  My hope is that if tonight’s game is rained out that the Tigers will just skip Galarraga’s start and give the poor guy a week off.

Galarraga can then start over in June and get past this awful month of May.  Here are Galarraga’s monthly splits…unreal:

  • April: 3-0, 1.85 ERA, .218 AVG Against
  • May: 0-4, 9.93 ERA, .319 AVG Against

While the Tigers were able to win one of Galarraga’s May starts, he really hasn’t done anything to help the team win.  In the one game they did win where he started, he was unable to get out of the first inning against the A’s.  Here’s what he’s done in the first two innings of his starts in May:

  • May 1 against CLE: 2 innings, 4 runs
  • May 7 against CWS: 2 innings, 5 runs
  • May 12 against MIN: 2 innings, 2 runs
  • May 17 against OAK: .2 innings 5 runs
  • May 23 against COL: 2 innings, 2 runs
  • Grand Total: 8.2 innings, 17 runs

So, sorry to all of the people who want to watch the Tigers tonight.  I really don’t want this one to go.  Maybe all Galarraga needs is a week off and for the calendar to turn to June.
