MLB Trade Rumors: Latest Rumblings from Around the Majors

Patrick ClarkeJun 3, 2018

Major League Baseball's offseason is in full swing as clubs are looking to retool for 2014.

The defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox have been one of the more talked about teams this hot-stove season. Although Boston and the rival New York Yankees have been linked to several marquee names, the biggest move thus far didn't involve either as Detroit and Texas swapped Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler in the first blockbuster deal of the fall.

However, there's still plenty of time left for teams to make moves.

Here, we'll break down the latest rumblings from around the majors.

Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers Targeting David Price?

The Washington Nationals and the Texas Rangers both appear to be potential trade suitors in a move for Tampa Bay Rays pitching ace David Price.

According to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo, both clubs will likely inquire about the 28-year-old:

"

Could the Nationals be a big player for Jacoby Ellsbury? They are certainly going to weigh in on David Price. The Rangers will do something big for another hitter after their blockbuster Ian Kinsler-for-Fielder deal. They will also inquire about Price.

"

Price went 10-8 this past season with 151 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.33. Since making his debut in 2008, Price has only had one losing season.

Keep in mind that Washington and Texas both ranked in the top 10 in the majors in team ERA last season. However, the Rangers could use a serious boost to their starting pitching rotation. Texas ranked sixth-worst in the majors in quality starts in 2013 with just 77.

Washington ranked ninth-best in that category with 91.

Boston Red Sox, Others Pursuing Matt Kemp?

The Red Sox are looking to add some firepower to their outfield, and perhaps L.A. Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp is the guy to deliver it.

Cafardo reports that several teams have asked about Kemp this offseason, including Boston:

"

Several teams, including the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners, Yankees, and Rangers, have inquired. If healthy, and that’s a big if after two injury-filled seasons, Kemp, a righthanded hitter, could be lineup protection for David Ortiz. There’s a lot left on his deal, but the Dodgers could eat some of the money.

"

The 29-year-old Kemp has played his entire major league career in L.A. but has struggled to stay healthy over the past two seasons after breaking out in 2011. Kemp only appeared in 73 regular-season games for the Dodgers this past season, batting .270 with 33 RBI and six home runs.

According to Spotrac.com, Kemp has six more years and close to $130 million still remaining on his eight-year deal. He's not scheduled to become a free agent until 2020.

Boston Interested in Mark Trumbo?

In addition to bolstering their outfield, the defending champions may look to add to their infield this offseason as well.

Cafardo adds that the Red Sox are interested in L.A. Angels first baseman Mark Trumbo and offers up a potential move that could help both sides:

"

The Angels could still be a strong trade partner with the Red Sox even after the Peter Bourjos-David Freese deal. The Sox, who have an interest in first baseman Mark Trumbo, could be tempted on power reliever Kevin Jepsen. The Angels would love to get a starting pitcher.

"

The 27-year-old Trumbo has played the past four seasons in L.A. and knocked in a career-best 100 RBI and 34 home runs in 2013. Clearly, Boston would love to get their hands on him.

Trumbo's versatility in the field is also an attractive quality. He's lined up at four different positions in each of the past two seasons, playing 123 games at first base, 19 in right field, eight in left field and one at third base in 2013.
