Premier League: 5 Biggest Transfer Rumours of the Week

Christopher HeathmanNov 15, 2013

Transfer talk never seems to go away, but as the season draws closer to Christmas and more importantly the January transfer window, the rumours are coming thick and fast.

Some are completely ridiculous, but still we cannot help debate the hypothetical possibility of these outlandish, improbable transfers taking place and what they could mean for the respective parties involved.

The Premier League is always at the forefront of the biggest names and therefore the biggest deals, and rumours so far have involved both potential departures and additions to the league.

This article is just a small selection, but here are the biggest rumours of the past week.

Falcao to Chelsea

1 of 5

It is not the first time Chelsea have been linked with Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, and boy could Chelsea do with him right now.

After failing in their bid to sign Wayne Rooney in the summer and only bringing in Samuel Eto'o, Chelsea are lacking in the striker department.

Jose Mourinho was in attendance for Colombia's friendly with Belgium, which the South American side won 2-0 and in which Falcao scored the opener. The Portuguese manager was keen to see the No. 9 up close before giving the green light.

Signing Falcao would be an outstanding addition on paper, but the fee, which according to the Daily Mirror is £60 million, is a steep price when there are other options out there.

The move is unlikely to happen in January, but could happen in the summer. If Chelsea wait until the summer, a bid for the younger-and-just-as-lethal Diego Costa could be a better and cheaper option.

He also has, to put it nicely, the personality which Mourinho tends to encourage in his players.

Trading Places: Kagawa to Dortmund, Reus to Man Utd

2 of 5

According to 'The Times' David Moyes wants to swap the out-of-sorts Shinji Kagawa for German starlet Marco Reus.

Manchester United will have been encouraged by the news the German international does have a release clause, which Borussia Dortmund conceded this week. However, the clause, reported to be in the region of £29.4 million, will mean a straight swap will not happen.

With Kagawa out of form while, in contrast, Reus continues to be one of the most impressive players in the world, it would be extremely silly for Dortmund to consider such a swap. Moyes will have to reach into the club's pockets if he wants to be successful in this deal.

It would be a great signing, but it could be one for the summer rather than January. He is already cup tied in the Champions League, and would Dortmund let him go in the middle of the season?

Dembele to Napoli

3 of 5

Straight out of Italy, newspaper Il Mattino have reported Napoli are keeping a keen eye on midfielder Mousa Dembele.

The Serie A side’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, recently confirmed the club want to bring in a midfielder as early as January, with Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano also on their shopping list.

Tottenham will not likely let this deal happen because of Dembele’s importance to Andres Villas-Boas’ side. Spurs are currently struggling for creativity and goals so to sell one of their more skillful players would be counter-productive.

January would be an odd time for this deal to go through, if he was to leave. But you never know, crazier things have happened.

Edin Dzeko Wanted by Arsenal

4 of 5

Arsenal need a striker. Olivier Giroud is doing a decent job on his own, but the poor fella needs a break, or just a partner to share the load.

Edin Dzeko is unhappy with the lack of game time he is currently receiving at Manchester City, so here comes Arsene Wenger to the rescue. Maybe.

If the Daily Mirror are right, then Arsenal are thinking long and hard about Dzeko as an option. They are not alone, however.

German side Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the unsettled striker as they look to replace Robert Lewandowski, who looks certain to be joining European champions Bayern Munich.

It is thought the Bosnian striker could move as soon as January. if Arsenal do make their move and complete a deal then it would be a healthy boost to their hopes of maintaining their title challenge.

Aguero to Barcelona

5 of 5

Lionel Messi has asked Barcelona to rekindle their interest in Manchester City'S Sergio Aguero. Seeing as he asked so nicely they have obliged, according to the the Daily Express anyway.

Not only this, but reports in Spain suggest Aguero wants the Barca move and has offered himself to the club.

The Argentinian is back to his best for Man City this campaign after a low-key season in 2012/2013, when City failed miserably to defend their title.

His efforts so far this season have helped the former champions to stay in touching distance of the title race, and he was rewarded for his performances when he was awarded the October player of the month.

The Manchester club certainly will not want their best player to leave in January, and it will probably take a huge bid from Barcelona to convince them otherwise in the summer.

However, if it is true he wants a move back to Spain then this deal may happen.
