Cincinnati Bengals Overtake Baltimore Ravens
This one has major AFC North implications with the Baltimore Ravens having dropped a game to Cleveland last week and now sitting in third.
Cincinnati continues to be the most dominant team in the division despite an embarrassing loss to Miami on Thursday Night Football in overtime via a safety:
Regardless of that humbling outcome, the 3-5 Ravens have a dud at quarterback this year with Joe Flacco, who has thrown 10 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He's received little help from star back Ray Rice, who averages just 2.7 yards per carry.
Cincinnati touts the No. 5 overall defense in the NFL, and despite the loss of Geno Atkins for the season, Mike Zimmer's unit will have no problem shutting down an offense that has reached the 30-point mark once.
Andy Dalton leads the NFL's No. 7 passing attack, and he will do just enough to squeak out a win of major importance on Sunday.
Prediction: Bengals 21, Ravens 17
Carolina Panthers Surprise San Francisco 49ers
Put all preconceived notions about the Carolina Panthers aside—Cam Newton and Co. have acted as the league's most complete team in recent weeks.
Newton's numbers speak for themselves:
| MIN | 20 | 26 | 242 | 76.9 | 3 | 0 | 9 | 30 | 1 |
| STL | 15 | 17 | 204 | 88.2 | 1 | 0 | 10 | 26 | 0 |
| TB | 23 | 32 | 221 | 71.9 | 2 | 0 | 11 | 50 | 1 |
| ATL | 23 | 37 | 249 | 62.2 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 22 | 1 |
Carolina also has the No. 3 ranked defense in the NFL, so it's no wonder the team is riding a hot four-game win streak.
San Francisco has not lost in five attempts coming out of a bye, but the league's No. 1 rushing attack is going to have some issues against a Panthers front seven led by Luke Kuechly that has stuffed backs such as Marshawn Lynch (43 yards) and Adrian Peterson (62 yards).
Colin Kaepernick has been anything but reliable though the air, which he will be forced to do against an elite unit. Carolina in a shocker.
Prediction: Panthers 20, 49ers 17
New Orleans Saints Blow Out Dallas Cowboys
Don't look now, but the New Orleans Saints have the NFL's fifth-best pass defense under new coordinator Rob Ryan.
That does not bode well for Tony Romo on Sunday Night Football, as he has received little help from his running game all season as the Cowboys average just over 75 yards on the ground per game.
A porous Dallas secondary that allows 305.2 yards per game as the second-to-last ranked unit now has to deal with elite tight end Jimmy Graham, who has 49 receptions for 746 yards and 10 touchdowns—in seven games.
This one has the potential to turn into a shootout, but it's highly unwise to bet against Sean Payton's prowess when it comes to designing sure-fire big plays—and Brees' ability to execute them.
New Orleans wins big.
Prediction: Saints 30, Cowboys 17
