Breeders' Cup 2013 Picks: Predicting Win, Place and Show for Classic
With one last day of exciting races left at the 2013 Breeders' Cup, it's time to predict the top three horses for the Classic race.
We saw London Bridge, Outstrip, Goldencents, Chriselliam and Beholder all come away with wins on Friday. Mike Smith rode the first two horses to wins, while Gary Stevens was the jockey for Beholder and continued what has been a terrific comeback in 2013.
Now that those races are done and Saturday's races are getting ready to start, let's take a look at predictions for the win, place and show for the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Show: Game On Dude
Everyone loves to bet on a favorite, and while Game On Dude may not win the Classic, he will certainly finish in the top three.
Game On Dude is currently riding a bit of a hot streak. Not only has he won every single race this year, he's also won six straight starts. The last time this horse didn't win was in last year's Classic, when he came in seventh place.
Instead of riding Palace Malice, who he rode at the Belmont Stakes, Mike Smith will be switching to Game On Dude in this race. That's huge for this horse, especially with Smith winning two different races on Friday.
It's been a while since Game On Dude has raced, and I really don't think he wins a seventh straight race, especially with the level of competition surrounding him.
Place: Paynter
Off all the contenders in the Classic on Saturday, there might not be a horse people are rooting harder for than Paynter.
Paynter was stricken with colitis last summer and nearly died. Colitis is a swelling of the large intestine, and it caused the horse to lose a considerable amount of weight.
Not only did Paynter survive, he was able to race again. He's raced four times in 2013, winning one race back in june and finishing in the top-five every single time. In 2012, he won another three starts.
With Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert on his side, I really like this horse to make a big run. I don't know if he will be able to win it all, but I really think Paynter can continue this incredible story by finishing just behind the leader.
Win: Mucho Macho Man
While big favorites like Fort Larned and Game On Dude have gotten a ton of attention heading into Saturday, Mucho Macho Man is starting to get some hype of his own.
The 2013 campaign hasn't been super successful for Mucho Macho Man. In his first four starts, he grabbed one win, two third-place finishes and did not place in the other. However, his one win back in September was at this same track in Santa Anita. In his other race in Santa Anita, he finished in second at the 2012 Breeders' Cup Classic.
Gary Stevens will be riding Mucho Macho Man on Saturday, and he's been having an incredible comeback year. He led Oxbow to a huge win at the Preakness Stakes in May, and he also led Beholder to a big win on Friday in the Distaff.
With how hot Stevens has been in 2013 and how good Mucho Macho Man has looked on this track, I really think that he can pull out the big win on Saturday.
