Arsenal's Serge Gnabry Signs New Contract with Club

Aaron BowerOct 28, 2013

Arsenal have handed a new long-term contract to winger Serge Gnabry, following his promising start to the 2013/14 campaign.

After making his debut in 2012/13, Gnabry has become a regular member of Arsenal's senior squad this season, featuring three times for the club in the Premier League so far this season. Most recently, he played 61 minutes for the Gunners in their 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Manager Arsene Wenger told the official Arsenal website that Gnabry has all the potential to be a top star:

"

Arsène Wenger said: “We signed Serge Gnabry because I believe that he will be a great player. He's nearly there now, and competes for a regular place in the team in the Premier League.

"He has technical ability, he has power, he has pace, he has finishing quality and he can give a final ball. He's a powerful offensive player and I believe that he will be a great player for Arsenal Football Club.”

Gnabry also has the distinction of being the second youngest player ever to play for Arsenal in Europe, with only Jack Wilshere playing in the Champions League at a younger age than Gnabry.

With Arsenal's stars, such as Santi Cazorla, returning to full fitness, Gnabry may well find his chances slightly limited for the remainder of the 2013/14 campaign. However, if injuries return to the side later in the season, Gnabry will provide a more than able deputy.

The 18-year-old scored his first goal for Arsenal in a 2-1 victory over Swansea City earlier in the season. His raw pace and skill on the ball makes him a handful for Premier League defenders, and he is certain to get better as his development at the club continues.

One thing is for certain, Arsenal certainly have faith in their young star by handing him a long-term deal with the club.
