NFL Odds Week 7: Underdogs Who Will Cover the Spread on Sunday

Daine PavloskiOct 16, 2013

Week 7 of the NFL is upon us, and with a new week in the NFL comes a new slate of games chock-full of intriguing matchups, big battles and, most of all, an overall great week of football.

As we head into Week 7 there are a few early lines down that are going to be tough for bettors to pass up as they look at the odds for each game. Here are a few of those matchups and lines to keep your eye on as the week goes on.

Chicago Bears (-1.5) vs. Washington Redskins

The Bears are slight favorites over the Redskins, but unfortunately for Chicago and bettors everywhere, if Washington wins, it doesn't matter what the spread is. The Bears are 4-2 and tied for first place in the NFC North, but they're overdue for another Jay Cutler implosion.

Cutler has been either very good or very bad. He'll have games like Week 6 against the Giants where he tosses two touchdown passes for over 260 yards and no picks, and then he'll have games like Week 4 against the Lions where he threw two touchdowns but paired them with three interceptions. Cutler has two multi-interception outings this season, and he's due for another one.

The Skins have a top-10 offense, rushing for over 128 yards per game and passing for over 271 yards per contest. The Bears defense is nothing like it used to be, ranked 23rd in the NFL against the pass, and they have given up at least 21 points in each game this season, which doesn't bode well when matched up with a solid offense like that of the Redskins.

The Bears as slight favorites won't be enough as the Redskins and RGIII get things back on track with an upset over Chicago in Week 7.

Dallas Cowboys (-3) vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Cowboys are early favorites against their NFC East opponent, but the Eagles have something the Cowboys don't—a running game.

The Cowboys are 3-3 and are tied for first in the NFC East with these very Eagles. They have put up some insane numbers in the last two weeks, totaling almost 80 points. The difference between those shootouts and this one will be Philly's running game.

The Eagles will once again have Nick Foles at the helm of one of the most dangerous offensive units in the NFL, which may sound strange, but believe it. Foles showed that he can run the show last week when he went 22-for-31 for 296 yards and four total touchdowns. Foles' solid arm will open things up for their running game, which ranks No. 1 in the NFL, averaging over 178 yards per game.

The Cowboys have a decent running defense which gives up around 105 yards on average, but their passing defense is terrible, allowing over 300 yards per game, which will open things up for everyone.

The Cowboys are favored, but after Week 7 is over, the Eagles will take sole ownership of the NFC East.

Denver Broncos (-7) vs. Indianapolis Colts

The spread has grown since Indy's 19-9 loss to San Diego on Monday Night Football, but have no fear Indy fans, not only will the Colts cover the seven-point spread, they'll beat the Denver Broncos and former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning

The Broncos and Colts will do battle in a matchup that may seem lopsided on paper, but once you look at it, it's not that crazy to think that the 4-2 Colts can hand the undefeated Broncos their first loss of the season.

The Colts defense is one of the best in the NFL against the pass, giving up just over 205 yards per game. The Broncos are obviously really good at that whole passing thing; in fact, Peyton Manning and his receivers make up the No. 1 passing attack in the league, tallying over 360 yards per game.

However, the Broncos are struggling. Not struggling like the Giants struggle, but struggling as much as an undefeated team can.

The Broncos offense has had issues with a number of miscues on the center-to-quarterback exchange between Manning and his center Manny Ramirez (no, not that Manny...I think), and Manning has thrown his only two interceptions of the season in the last two weeks, both games that ended way closer than they should have.

The Colts need a big win to bounce back from their loss to San Diego, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to get it. Bettors who want a big win should take a look at this showdown that will surely be a high-scoring affair.
