Bob Geren Deserves to Be in the Unemployment Line

Steven ResnickMay 21, 2009

Bob Geren's run of clueless decisions continues and it's time for Billy Beane to get on the phone and fire Geren. Today's game should be the last straw for Beane. If Geren somehow manages to keep his job after today, it is beyond my comprehension.

The A's showed their ability to come back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to finally overtake the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 in the top of the ninth inning.

Andrew Bailey has had a fantastic season this year as a rookie for the A's, but there was absolutely no reason for Bailey to be out on the mound for the bottom of the ninth inning.

The A's, throughout all the good effort to come back and finally win three games in a row for the first time this season, failed. It was due to the fact that Geren forgot that he had a closer in the bullpen that he could use.

Speaking of that, why wasn't Brad Ziegler in the game? He's the closer, isn't he? So, again, another decision by Geren contributes to a loss. The only good news was the Texas Rangers lost again and the A's somehow are still only seven games out. If their manager had a brain, the A's would be at least six games back.

The question is if Billy Beane is really paying attention or watching the team from afar. Geren doesn't even deserve to be on the flight back home to Oakland because it's obvious Geren should not be the A's manager anymore. Geren then could easily have his own vacation to celebrate his piss poor job as A's manager.

Beane must have been smoking something when he gave the contract extension to Geren because it's obvious Geren hasn't done anything to warrant staying as manager of the team. Why was he even allowed to come back as manager for this season? It's obvious his career as manager is just as crappy as his career was as a catcher.

So, here's a hint for Billy Beane: Fire Bob Geren! He is no longer needed! Today was the last straw and it should be for Beane, as well!
