Jake Peavy to White Sox—Justin Upton, Papi Go Yard

Jake Peavy is going to the White Sox. The righty hasn’t been great this year but he’s still one of the few aces in baseball.
Chicago GM Kenny Williams is known for making splashy moves and the team is struggling. Looks like San Diego is getting lefties Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda, and potentially outfielder Jordan Danks as a player to be named later.
Poreda is the gem of the deal as he throws in the mid to high 90’s from the left side and just needs to get his secondary pitches together to be an excellent starter. At the very least he’ll be a dominant left-handed reliever a la Matt Thorton. You gotta think San Diego could have done better than this by maybe waiting until the trade deadline but Peavy is just 3-5 and perhaps they know something Chicago doesn’t.
Justin Upton is a monster. Just check out this home run he hit yesterday to put Arizona ahead in the 13th inning. Scouts have raved about his raw talent since he was the first pick in the 2005 draft.
He looks like he’s already coming into his own at the young age of 21. Unreal.
A guy that would be a junior or senior in college is tearing up National League pitching to the tune of .313, 9 HR, 26 RBI. Arizona doesn’t have much to be happy about, but Upton looks like the future MVP candidate that many expected him to become. He’s truly a special bat.
Big Papi finally went yard. Just after Russ Ortiz hit his first of the year, David joined him against Jays lefty Brett Cecil.
It was Cecil’s first bad start of the year, and its not surprising considering how good Boston is at home. The Sox are now 15-4 at home.
