Free MLB Pick: UNDER 9.5 Baltimore/New York Yankees:
The Yankees are really playing well, and starting to cash in on their big free agent signings this past offseason. Mark Teixeira hit two more homers last night and looks like a completely different player since he’s had Alex Rodriguez hitting behind him. Tonight they’ll send their other big aquisition to the mound in CC Sabathia. The big Lefty is currently 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA, but has been on fire recently, winning his last two starts including a shutout of the Orioles a few weeks ago. Baltimore will counter with rookie righty Brad Bergesen (1-1, 5.27). Bergesen has done a decent job for the O’s thus far and looks like he could stick in their awful rotation. Baltimore has a terrific lineup, but injuries have slowed them down a bit recently. OF’s Adam Jones and Luke Scott have been out (though Jones could return tonight), and SS Cesar Izturis is likely out tonight as well after straining his groin on Sunday. We look for Sabathia to continue his winning ways and shut down the Orioles all night.
Free MLB Pick: Texas -125 over Detroit:
Pitching? The Texas Rangers actually are winning games with their pitching? As crazy as that sounds, it’s actually true. They’ve gotten terrific efforts from veterans like Kevin Milwood and Vicente Padilla, and youngsters like Matt Harrison and Scott Feldman has been pleasant surprises as the Rangers lead the American League West. Texas has always and continue to have a great lineup top to bottom. CF Josh Hamilton’s return from the DL has helped to spark their 7 game winning streak. Hamliton hurt himself Sunday crashing into a wall and may miss tonight’s game, but this lineup with Kinsler, Young, Blalock, Cruz, and Davis will not miss a beat. Tigers starter Dontrelle Willis was awful in his first start of ‘09, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs in 4 2/3 innings. Willis had missed the first month of the season dealing with an anxiety disorder. It would be nice to see Willis regain his NL form someday, but he’s going to need to work his way back into shape. We’re rooting for him to get back on track, just not tonight. Expect more of the same as the Rangers jump all over Willis and conitnue their winning ways.
