Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 3: Final Verdicts on Fantasy's Biggest Question Marks

Joseph ZuckerJun 8, 2018

Have you already given up on your fantasy football team? I know I have.

Sure, the NFL season is only two weeks old. That's not going to stop people from making rash decisions in an effort to get that first win.

Don't be one of those people. You don't want to do anything too crazy off of just two regular-season games. If you had faith in your players before the season, keep that faith and trust they'll come through.

In an effort to try and help revive your season, here's some advice on some of fantasy football's biggest question marks going into Week 3.

Start 'Em: Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams, QB

Sam Bradford is quietly having himself a nice fantasy season. In the St. Louis Rams' first two games, he has 651 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.

There were some reservations in St. Louis about whether Bradford was a franchise quarterback. With his performance in 2012 and start to this year, he's putting those doubts to bed.

The Rams travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in Week 3. Monte Kiffin has been a boost to the Dallas defense, but it's still looking a bit questionable through the first two weeks. Eli Manning, interceptions and all, had a big performance in Week 1, and Alex Smith followed up with a strong showing in Week 2.

Bradford looks due to put up some nice numbers this week. It was encouraging seeing Tavon Austin catch a couple of touchdowns last Sunday.

Sit 'Em: Eli Manning, New York Giants, QB

Speaking of Manning, there isn't a more frustrating fantasy quarterback than him. He's a definite feast or famine guy. You've seen that by his strong fantasy performance in Week 1 and then the drop-off in Week 2. It's never a good idea to consistently rely on a player like that.

What's worse is that Manning and his New York Giants are facing off against what should be a very motivated Carolina Panthers team. The Panthers could easily be 2-0 if not for a couple of stupid plays. Manning shouldn't be terrible, but he's not going to put up numbers worthy of a No. 1 fantasy QB.

Start 'Em: Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins, RB

I've been kinda high on Lamar Miller since the start of the season. He's got the quickness and outside running ability to become a steady fantasy back. After Week 1, I couldn't have sounded any more wrong, when Miller amassed three yards rushing and seven receiving. Week 2 was much better, with 69 yards rushing and a touchdown.

The Atlanta Falcons have been good against the run so far, but there's just the feeling that Miller will have another strong performance. The Miami Dolphins have a lot of weapons in the passing game, especially with Mike Wallace stepping up in Week 2. That's going to take pressure off of the running game and open up some holes for Miller.

Sit 'Em: Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers, RB

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Mike Vandermause, the Packers are thinking about sitting Eddie Lacy this weekend. Green Bay's plan is to let him rest this week and then use the Week 4 bye to continue recuperating from his concussion. He'd be back on the field in Week 5.

Concussions can be very tricky. Each guy has a different response and a different recovery time.

It's safe to say that even if he's ready to go Sunday, Lacy won't be seeing the field. James Starks did very well in his place, so there's no real urgency for the Packers to rush Lacy back.

Start 'Em: DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans, WR

DeAndre Hopkins had a breakout performance in Week 2 with 117 yards and a touchdown. He may not have similar numbers in Week 3, be they should be enough for a solid fantasy performance.

The Baltimore Ravens defense has yet to prove it's fully replaced the likes of Paul Kruger, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe. Matt Schaub should be able to get both Hopkins and Andre Johnson involved in the passing game.

Sit 'Em: Cecil Shorts, Jacksonville Jaguars, WR

At this point, just go ahead and put any Jacksonville Jaguars player on the bench. It doesn't matter who the guy is, he'll be sucked down by the vortex of stink that is the Jags.

This week, it's going to be Cecil Shorts. Jacksonville has to travel to Seattle for a tough game against the Seahawks, which have one of the best secondaries in the league. Having Chad Henne as the starter is a fantasy boost, but it's not going to be anywhere near enough to expect anything out of Shorts this weekend.

Start 'Em: Jordan Cameron, Cleveland Browns, TE

What else does Jordan Cameron have to do to work his way into your fantasy lineup? He's been the leading receiver for the Cleveland Browns in both of their regular season games. All told, Cameron has 14 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown.

With Josh Gordon returning, that could actually be good news for Cameron. There's going to be another target in the Browns passing attack that will get the defense's attention. Both guys should get enough to satisfy their fantasy owners.

Sit 'Em: Martellus Bennett, Chicago Bears, TE

Quite a few people had Martellus Bennett listed as a fantasy sleeper coming into the season, and so far, he's done a lot to validate those projections. His 125 receiving yards aren't anything to write home about, but his three touchdowns are.

However, you should expect some regression to the mean, and it could very well come in Week 3.

The Pittsburgh Steelers look old and have struggled so far in 2013. Their defense is still good and has more than enough in the tank. It's not the issue in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers defense is going to be extra motivated to avoid an 0-3 start.

That doesn't spell good things for Bennett.
