US Open Tennis 2013 Schedule: Complete TV Coverage for Remainder of Draw

Mike HoagJun 5, 2018

There will be at least one American vying for a U.S. Open crown.

The semifinals have been solidified heading into the final weekend of the 2013 tournament and Serena Williams, as expected, has continued her dominant tear.

Williams looks to defend her 2012 crown at Flushing Meadows, N.Y., this weekend, but has a tough semifinal match against fifth-seed Li Na of China.

The American men didn’t fare too well against the top competitors from around the world, but that was to be expected. What wasn’t anticipated was an early exit for five-time U.S. Open king Roger Federer.

And who could have predicted the dramatic, but animated, Andy Murray disappointingly dropping his quarterfinals duel against Stanislas Wawrinka?

Despite those two upsets, there is a real possibility that we’ll see two finals matchups between the top two seeds from both the men’s and women’s draws.

Here’s a look at what to expect from each side, as well as information on where to watch the remaining action this weekend and the men's final on Monday.

Men's Singles

There isn’t a big chance for an upset in the men’s semifinals. Both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are playing tremendous tennis and have impressive records against their next opponents.

Nadal is 10-0 against Frenchman David Gasquet while Wawrinka hasn’t fared much better against Djokovic, going just 2-12 against the Serbian star.

Ultimately, it will come down to the top two players in the world. Deep down, we knew to expect nothing less, but how will the men's final shake out?

Nadal will continue his recent dominance over Djokovic, the top-ranked player in the world, remaining undefeated on hard courts this summer by winning for the sixth time in the last seven matches between the two. Nadal's new aggressive approach on the faster hard courts and dominant serve will be the difference-maker.

Prediction: Nadal (2) over Djokovic (1) in five sets

Women's Singles

You don’t win more convincingly than Williams did against Carla Suarez Navarro in the quarterfinals. She put up a doughnut against the Spaniard, becoming the first woman since 1989 to win a U.S. Open quarterfinal without losing a game.

It’s hard to count out Chinese superstar Li Na, but with the complete dominance that the 31-year-old Williams is showing, it’s even harder to imagine her suffering a letdown on her home soil.

Likewise, No. 2-seed Victoria Azarenka is riding high after defeating former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic to reach the semifinals. A win for the Australian would set up a rematch with Williams of last year’s final at Flushing Meadows.

Like last year, expect the American to continue her dominance by once again toppling Azarenka for her fifth U.S. Open title. Azarenka will make it difficult on Williams, though. A year ago, Azarenka stole the second set and took Williams to the wire in the final set before losing 7-5.

Prediction: Williams (1) over Azarenka (2) in three sets
