Dan Evans Powers on at U.S Open with Win over Bernard Tomic
Dan Evans’ superb run at the U.S. Open continued as the British No. 3 came from behind to beat Australia’s Bernard Tomic 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on Thursday to book his place in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
Evans, who has battled back from notable off-court problems including a lengthy suspension from the Lawn Tennis Association, dumped the 11th seed Kei Nishikori out in the first round and carried that form into his match with Tomic.
"It was pleasing I could find some belief inside and come back and find my game, because it wasn't there," said Evans, per Piers Newbery of the BBC.

"I looked at the clock, I think it was 34 minutes, I was a set and a break down. It was looking like the airport for me. So, yeah, it was good."
The beginning of the match did not look good for Evans. Tomic—who has his own off-court issues—raced through the opening set in 22 minutes.
Evans called the trainer on court at the end of the first set for treatment on his nipples—much to the amusement of British No. 1 and defending champion Andy Murray.
"Great nipples from @Evo151216 never once seen that on a tennis court... Got the physio on due to nipple rash...

Evans eased his way into the match and pounced as Tomic’s error count increased. The Australian, who made just four mistakes in the first set, notched 12 unforced errors in the second, per the U.S. Open's official website, as Evans leveled the match.
The third set was a tense affair that went to a tiebreak. It was Evans who took the forward step, and his impressive forehand enabled him to gain the upper hand.
And with the momentum behind him, he powered through the fourth set to book his ticket to the third round.

Coming into the U.S. Open, Evans had career earnings of $202,355, according to the ATP’s official website. His win over Tomic guarantees him $93,000.
