So this is what happens when you dedicate yourself to losing weight and getting in the best shape of your career? Kevin Milwood has simply been outstanding for the Rangers thus far in 2009 (3-2 2.78), after a few really disappointing seasons as the Rangers #1 starter. The Rangers are in first place in the AL West behind pitching of all things. A team always known for an amazing offense (which still exists, by the way) has suddenly found the secret to being a winning ballclub. Youngster Matt Harrison joined in on the fun last night by pitching his first career shutout in the Rangers 6-0 win in Chicago.

Offensive superstars like Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, Josh Hamliton (currently DL’d), have been joined by youngsters Nelson Cruz, Chris Davis, and slick fielding shortstop Elvis Andrus. This team looks like they’ll stick around for the duration this year, unless the pitching collapses like it has in the past.

Meanwhile, Sox starter John Danks started the season a house of fire, giving up one run or less in his first three outings. The past two starts have been a completely different story. Danks has been torched for 10 runs in his last 9 innings of work. Seeing the Rangers and their high powered offense is the last thing Danks needs right now. No question he’ll turn things around at some point, but we look for more recent history as Texas had 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 plus vs. Danks this past Sunday.

This is a nice spot for a small dog as we expect the Rangers to continue their terrific play, especially with Milwood on the hill.
