Yankees—Orioles: Game Preview

Gary MarcheseMay 9, 2009

The Yankees will play the second of three in Baltimore tonight with Phil Hughes pitching against Adam Eaton. The Yankees will try and make it two in a row, that's what we call a winning streak. Here are the notes and lineup from the Lohud Yankees blog.

The Yankees are 21st in baseball hitting with RISP—anyone still think Kevin Long is any good? Only Cleveland and Oakland are worse in the AL. The Yankees are batting 154 with RISP over their last five games. The Yankees are 4-10 against the AL East.

Johnny Damon is swinging a hot bat going nine for his last 17 with six extra base hits and eight RBI. Hideki Matsui continues to look strong carrying a 16 game hitting streak as a starter into tonights game and Melky Cabrera since becoming the starting CF is hitting 346 with a 433 OBP.

Nick Swisher is struggling striking out in eight of his last 17 AB'S and Big Tex continues his struggles going 3-17 in his last 17 games with four extra base hits. Robbie Cano has cooled off significantly going three for his last 26, but he is two for his last two.

Nick Markakis is 4-8 with two doubles against Hughes.

Maybe Big Tex will break out tonight as he is 5-8 with a homerun against Eaton. A-Rod is 2-3 with a homer and Swish is 2-4 with two homeruns off of him.

The Yankees record bears out that they need A-rod, since he joined them in 2004 they are 33-38 without him.

A-rod only needs nine more homeruns to tie Reggie Jackson on the all time list, I wonder if he will keep quiet when A-rod goes past him or be upset as he has been vocal against all the guys with homeruns in this era being tainted.

Brett Tomko was called up and Dave Robertson optioned back down to AAA-Scranton. I wish they would of kept Robertson and Melancon and gotten rid of Veras and Ramirez, but at least if they continue to struggle, I am sure we will see the young guys again.

Yanks lineup:
Jeter(SS)
Damon(LF)
Tex(1B)
A-rod(3B)
Matsui(DH)
Swisher(RF)
Cano(2B)
Cabrera(CF)
Cervelli(C)

The game is on YES at 7:05 enjoy the game everyone.
