SummerSlam 2013: 5 Other Locations Besides Los Angeles Ideal for This PPV

David LevinJun 3, 2018

While WrestleMania is arguably the biggest and most talked-about pay-per-view on the WWE circuit, SummerSlam this year might be close on its heels.

WWE does a good job of moving pay-per-view events around the United States and Canada to give the viewers and fans a true chance to see the major shows in their country. But when it comes to SummerSlam, it has become a West Coast-exclusive event of late.

Is this really fair to the fans in the WWE Universe?

I understand the glamor, the stars, the connection between Vince McMahon's movie projects and Hollywood, but fans in Boston or Kansas City or other cities should have the chance to see an event like this in their own backyard.

While Los Angeles may be the movie capital of the world, wrestling is a global business and should be taken on the road, especially for an event like this.

Here are five locales that would be perfect for this event.

1. AmericanAirlines Arena

If Vince and the boys are looking for sun, surf and sand to help boost sales and celebrities, then why not use South Beach as the perfect backdrop.

The home for WrestleMania 28 was a great success, brought out the biggest and brightest stars and was home to John Cena losing to The Rock. It could happen again. Cena could drop the WWE Title in Miami. How would that devastate the current champion?

There is no reason to think WWE could not pull off another event in Miami in warmer weather, which would mean more fans and celebs would come out to watch.

2. Time Warner Cable Arena

Taking a page out of the old NWA here. Charlotte was home to some of the greatest NWA/WCW wrestling matches of all time. Vince McMahon can revel in the fact he now owns this area and beat Jim Crockett in the wrestling war at the same time.

The team Michael Jordan built, the Charlotte Bobcats, play here. While the Bobcats are not that good a team, wrestling could make hoops fans forget about losing records for a while.

3. Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto

There are plenty of Canadian superstars who have graced the entrance ramp of the WWE.

Bret Hart, Edge, Christian, Chris Jericho. WWE does very well in Canada.

Although the arena was constructed for hockey, it now serves as a place for business, retail and events. It would be perfect for a wrestling event.

I am sure WWE will find a way to make this an event where Bret Hart has some involvement if it were to happen.

4. Alamodome, San Antonio

If The Rock can host WrestleMania and The Miz can host SummerSlam, can't Shawn Michaels do the same thing in his own backyard?

The Alamodome has played host to the San Antonio Spurs, the NCAA Final Four and other sporting events. While everything is bigger in Texas, it can also prove that wrestling is better in the state as well.

Oh, and a note to Vince McMahon. If Eva Longoria could be part of the festivities, it would be most welcome. Just throwing it out there.

5. The O2 Arena, London

The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the centre of The O2, a large entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in London, England.

It is just like Vince McMahon to invade an area that has been used successfully by TNA.

The Brits have been popular of late. Andy Murray wins Wimbledon, Lee Westwood almost wins the British Open and Chris Froome takes the Tour de France. Adding a huge event like SummerSlam to the list would be a major accomplishment.

UK wrestlers like Billy Robinson, The British Bulldog, Dave Finlay and Dynamite Kid have all been huge successes over the years. London would welcome the event and pack the house.
