Maller Calls Mets Corner Outfielders Scrubs...

ed feverMay 8, 2009

Radio personality Ben Maller hosts a sports news aggregate through Fox Sports, Ben Maller's rumors and notes by Foxsports.com. It's generally a great place to find tidbits from around the league, that normally you may not come across. Every once in awhile Maller will comment on an article with what he calls "Ben's Take". Today, I came across a "Ben's Take" that I had to take exception to, in posting an article from the Star Ledger about the Mets being happy they passed on Manny, Maller's take was that our corner outfielder's are scrubs.

While I'd like a better left fielder; I'd hardly call Ryan Church a scrub and Fernando Tatis, Dan Murphy and Jeremy Reed are solid bench players.

"The Mets privately have to be breathing a sigh of relief that the team didn't end up signing Manny Ramirez this past off-season when he was a free agent. Being a New York native, there was constant speculation after the season that Ramirez would end up a Met. That didn't come to pass, as the slugger signed a two-year, $45-million contract in March. "No, no, no, no," Mets general manger Omar Minaya said before Thursday's game when asked if the team was relieved it didn't sign Ramirez. "We made a decision to go with pitching. I don't see it as a relief, it's just that we made a decision." -- Newark Star-Ledger .....Ben's Take: Do the Mets understand that Manny missing 50 games will still have better numbers than Gary Sheffield and the collection of scrubs who they have in the outfield corners? source Fox Sports
