'Dem Apples: Barry Bonds Taints Baseball

Ron JohnsonAug 9, 2007
IconI've been told that Barry Bonds deserves my respect.
Yeah, right.
Sorry to break the news folks, but August 7th, 2007 will be remembered as a day of sadness—a day on which a hallowed record was tainted by a man who deserves every middle finger he gets.

I've heard people compare Bonds to Lance Armstrong. Are you kidding me? Armstrong is a cancer survivor, an iron man, and above all else a champion who actually earned his spot in history.
When October rolls around, Bonds and his Giants will be at home watching someone else win the World Series.
There's only one true home run champion, and his name is Hank Aaron. As far as I'm concerned, Bonds' 756 homers are a load of BS. This man doesn't deserve a standing ovation. He played dirty, and therefore deserves to be remembered as the dirty cheat who spit in the face of every true baseball fan.
The thought of Bonds being dubbed anyone's Home Run King makes my stomach turn. As far as this sports fan is concerned, the King of Sting is still Hank Aaron.
The Hammer may have sent his taped congrats to Bonds, but he wasn't in San Francisco to see his record stolen. He stuck to his guns and didn't make the appearance—and no one should chastise him for it.
In all honesty, who really cares about Barry Bonds? He sullied the most sacred record in baseball. I applaud the City of Angels for booing the not-so-great Giants slugger during his visit last week.
In fact, to all those who jeer Bonds for his betrayal of the game and the people who love it—I salute you.
As for Bonds, I say this:
Because of you, professional baseball is now a joke. You dragged the game's most prestigious record through the mud. You are truly a bad apple, you doped-up jackass. You should be remembered as the biggest fraud in MLB history, and you don't belong anywhere near Cooperstown.
And Barry, just one one question—how do you like 'Dem Apples?
