WWE News: Roman Reigns Interested in Pursuing Solo Career

Chris FeatherstoneJun 8, 2018

We have all seen the impact that The Shield have exhibited since their debut at Survivor Series of last year. From sabotaging Ryback's career to defeating a total of eight world champions, WWE immediately decided to make this trio noteworthy. Moreover, within six months, each of them are holding championship gold.

Despite this, one of the members of this dominant group is looking at other options. Shield member and tag team champion Roman Reigns has other goals that he is setting his eyes on other than continuing to run roughshod in WWE with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

He wants to be the number one guy.

Reigns appeared on the 4th & Pain podcast via WrestlingInc.com and clearly voiced his desire to breakout as a singles star, stating, "I want to be the absolute top guy in this company." There is no question about it—Roman Reigns is looking to have his own identity as a major player in the WWE.

So, the question is posed: does Roman Reigns have what it takes to be a top star of the company?

I believe there is no doubt that he can be. Roman Reigns, from the very beginning, has mostly been the go-to guy when it comes to bailing The Shield out of a perilous situation to get a close victory. Moreover, he has been the one who drives the nail in the coffin, giving superstars such as The Undertaker, Kane, John Cena and Ryback a powerbomb (with the assistance and Rollins and Ambrose).

As we've seen by the success of Edge and Goldberg, the Spear is a marketable move in pro wrestling, and his execution of that move is getting better by the week. Not only does he have great follow-through with the move, but it looks as if he is a human harpoon when he delivers it. Although Ambrose and Rollins are also good competitors, the Bulldog DDT and the High Knee/Mushroom Stomp, respectively, are not ideal moves for a top guy.

Reigns also has the size and intensity of a main event star. He would do well by competing against superstars such as Kane and Sheamus to excel his dominance as a big man. Plus, let's face it—don't we all desire Sheamus to put someone over? Well, Roman Reigns would be the perfect choice.

Although The Shield is losing a bit of stock, and they need to be together a bit longer for anyone to successfully break off and be a top guy, Roman Reigns has all the tools (with the exception of great mic work, which can definitely be worked on and improved) to be a top guy before the middle/end of 2014.

Are you in favor a Roman Reigns breaking out from The Shield in hopes to be a top guy? Does he have the tools? Sound off, respectfully, below.
