Kansas City Royals-Minnesota Twins: Questions...

Unknown Royals FanMay 2, 2009
Right now, I’m watching the Royals close out the 10-7 extra inning win over the Twins.
Some truly horrendous relief pitching from the Twins has allowed us to win, and covered up some incomprehensible managing.  So, I’m only left with questions.

Why was it okay to bring the Mexicutioner in for a five-out outing in the 10th, when we were tied, but not okay in the eighth when we had a run and a relief pitcher who couldn’t find the strike zone with a compass?

Why was Tony Pena Jr. allowed to bat with two men on and two outs at the top of the 10th with Mark Teahen sitting on the bench?

For that matter, why is Tony Pena Jr. ever allowed to bat?

And with that, why is Tony Pena Jr. even on the roster?

And since he’s on the roster and allowed to bat twice, why did he swing one-handed twice, when he clearly sucks ass as a hitter when he’s using two hands?  If he’s hurt, wouldn’t common sense cause him to call a timeout?

And if he was hurt, why did he play in the field again?

And doesn’t this show the same lack of sense that caused him to drop a pop-up because he forgot his sunglasses last year?

Is Trey Hillman really trying to win games?

For that matter, with TPJ on the roster, is Dayton Moore?

Was tonight’s outing simply Banny’s good BABIP luck catching up to him?

Who likes Willie Bloomquist right now, besides me?

Why is Tony Pena Jr. still on the roster?

I already said that one, didn’t I?

After the outings by Bannister and Ponson, is it time to start the Hochevar Watch?

(NOTE - violating my own “questions only” format—I know I have said I want Hochevar to stay in Omaha long enough to win 15.  I still do.  But I’m not sure Bannster and Ponson are going to allow that.  If the Royals are to contend this year, they need their five best starters on the ML squad.  And Hochevar may in fact be nosing his way up on the depth chart.)

Was I the only one expecting Hillman to bring in Farnsworth in the 11th?

Should Bannister and Ponson’s starts just be written off to the Metrodome?

Did Ron Mahay show signs of returning to last year’s form tonight?

And aren’t those enough questions to keep us pondering?
