Pirates vs. Reds Video: Watch Starling Marte's Tremendous Leaping Catch
Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Starling Marte has been impressive with his defense thus far in his brief career. But no prior play can match the one made on Monday in the bottom of the third inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
With two outs and a runner on second for the Reds, second baseman Brandon Phillips took a pitch from Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano and absolutely drilled it on a line to left field.
It certainly looked like extra bases and a 1-0 lead for the Reds.

However, Marte had other plans. He took off at the crack of the bat, raced to his right and went into a dive, making an incredible catch while fully extended.
The catch drew the praise of many fans on Twitter.
"Starling Marte probably won't have to stretch for a good week after that catch.

"The best part of Starling Marte's catch was his "I'm too old for this sh*t" reaction when he got to his knees.

"Possible catch of the year from starling marte! #letsgobucs

In addition, Pirates play-by-play man Greg Brown was just slightly animated with his call of the play as well.
Marte's defense, as stated earlier, has been on display more than once during his brief time in the majors.
Back in April, Marte absolutely stole from Joey Votto on a similar play to Monday's, launching into a dive to rob Votto of extra bases.
Marte has been solid at the plate for the Pirates, hitting .282 with six home runs and 19 RBI. But the defense seen thus far has been special indeed, and the rival Reds are clearly tired of seeing the Buccos' outfielder.
