Buccos Take Down Reds
Micah Owings struggled from the get-go and fell to 1-3 on the season in tonightโs 8-6 loss. The Pirates got the hit parade started early as batters one through eight dropped a four spot on the Reds before the first inning came to an end. The Reds were playing catch-up all night and eventually ran out of innings. They flirted with a come back scoring one in the eighth and two in the ninth, but it was not to be. Perhaps if they couldโve held the Bucs to that one big inning, I could be writing a different type of recap.
On the bright side of thingsโฆ
Willy Taveras went 2-5 and has been getting on base at a pretty good clipย so far this seasonย (.350).
Laynce Nix got a hit in his pinch hit AB. The guy hits the ball and can play a respectable left field. Please, Dusty Baker, let him play.
Do I need to keep putting up Joey Vottoโs nightly stats? It seems like theyโre always the same. Anyway, Joey went 2-3 with two walks and an RBI. Typical night for #19.
Adam Rosales put together another nice night going 3-5 with an RBI and scored a run. I think heโs filling in for Edwin quite nicely.
Alex Gonzalez had a huge hit tonight. That would be a three-run homer to put the Reds on the board in the fourth. He found another hit in there somewhere too.
The elderly David Weathers and Arthur Rhodes continue to throw up zeros. Good for them and I hope they can keep it up all year.
โThe Mayorโ Sean Casey attended his first game since his retirement from baseball tonight. Too bad the Reds couldnโt get a win for him. Sean Casey is such a cool guy. Heโs one of my all-time favorite Reds.
The โBoosโ
Micah Owings: bad night on the mound and at the plate.
Brandon Phillips cannot bat cleanup with a statline like this: .192/.287/.356. Ah, but he can and he will!
Some might say Iโm giving up on Chris Dickerson too soon, but Iโm tired of him. Give me Laynce Nix!
