Shutout Deja Vu for Bronson Arroyo
Adam Rosales had another nice game: 1-2 with 2 walks. He made an excellent play falling into the stands to grab a Nate McClouth foul ball. Itโs usually a good thing when you can minimize the number of pitches that guy sees.
The oft-meligned Brandon Phillips hit his third homer of the season and also put up a sac fly to score a run. Phillips actually accounted for 50% of the Reds scoring tonight. Iโm still not fully confident that BP is back and should be batting cleanup.
Ryan Hanigan had another great night behind and at the dish: 2-3 with a walk and run scored. Heโs batting .412 and Iโm 96% sure he wonโt play tomorrow. What about that makes sense to you?
Just when you think Joey Vottoย might be startingย to slump, he goes 2-4 with aย walk and an RBI. Joeyโs walk was intentional, only the second time this year heโs been handed first base.
Iโve been saying this for a while now: with Brandon Phillips being all but impressive at the plate thus far, pitchers should walk Joey Votto. Donโt get me wrong, I donโt want them to, but thatโs what I would do.
As mentioned in Wednesdayโs game recap, the Reds are going to have to keep a lot of games tight and low scoring in order to give themselves a chance to win. Thatโs how it has to be when youโre rounding out the bottom five in nearly every statistical batting category.
Tomorrow night weโll see Micah โBambinoโ Owings versus Ross Ohlendorf (2-2, ). Ohlendorf came over to the Buccos with Jeff Karstens in the big Damaso Marte and Xavier Nady deal with the Yankees. Who cares right? Maybe Dusty Baker will get a wild hair up his butt and bat Owings somewhere other than ninth. Itโs doubtful.
Stuff and Thingsโฆ
This should be retitled, โmy pissed off rant about things that donโt matter.โ
The Pirates new alternate uniforms are stupid. They might look halfway decent without the numbers on the front. At least theyโre much better than their old alternates (notice the stupidly placed numbers on the far right uni).
