Chicago White Sox: Podsednik, Nix Up From Minors, Anderson on DL

Mike DiamondMay 1, 2009

Welcome back to the South Side Scott Podsednik, but this time it is out of desperation. The Sox have used two starting center fielders, DeWayne Wise and Brian Anderson. Both Wise and Anderson are on the disabled list.

This will be interesting to see where Podsednik fits in the Sox lineup. I would imagine that Podsednik will lead off, but with Chris Getz coming back from injury Ozzie Guillen has a decision to make.

My thought would be that Getz would lead off and Podsednik would act as a "second lead-off man" in the nine-hole. Josh Fields has fit well in the two-hole this season, so I do not see a Getz because they are virtually the same type of hitter.

Jayson Nix, who was hurt during Spring Training during the race for second base, returns to the White Sox after tearing it up at Charlotte. .450 BA, 5 RBI, 4 BB, and 1 SB

Nix will probably ride the bench and be used in a pinch runner stiutaion. Do not be surprised if you see Nix get a start against either the Rangers or Royals on the road against a left handed starter.

Nix was batting .462 in seven games during spring training, before suffering a strained right quadricep. Nix only has played second base, so it may be a while for Nix to see regular action.

Brian Anderson was sent to the disabled list after suffering a strained right oblique on Wednesday while swinging.

Let's hope injuries do not continue to pile up for the defending AL Central champs, but if they do it will show the depth of their minor league system.
