25 Sports Stars Who Could Take Over Hollywood

Over the years, we've seen plenty of athletes who have taken their skills from the playing field straight onto the screen.

There are always athletes that have that "it" factor in their sports, but with sports and entertainment crossing-over so much these days, the ones who have "it" away from the game are the ones who become most popular.

That's why we're taking a crack at the athletes who, thanks to their game, personality and coolness, could straight up own Hollywood.

JaVale McGee

We've already seen some of the entertaining things that the Nuggets' JaVale McGee does on an everyday basis, so it makes sense that the Shaqtin' a Fool star is getting his own reality show.

I have a feeling Millionaire Mama's Boy is going to be a hit. 

McGee's one of the most exciting players in the league, and when you consider the boneheaded plays he does on a weekly basis, there should be plenty of intrigue leading up to this TV series. 

Tyrann Mathieu

The "Honey Badger" just don't care!

That's probably the only thing holding back Arizona Cardinals rookie Tyrann Mathieu from trying to score a part in Hollywood.

Considering all of the drama surrounding him over the past year or so, the former LSU star would likely fair well in Hollywood.

J.R. Smith

We're no Knicks fan, but we really enjoy some of the things that come out of 2013 NBA Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith's mouth.

Besides providing one of the best playoff quotes so far this year, he's made his thoughts on women very clear from an early age. 

What person wouldn't want to see him star in his own TV show or go on The Millionaire Matchmaker?

Hell, other athletes have done it.

P.K. Subban

The Canadiens defensemen isn't only a major trash talker—which always helps earn points for popularity—but he's also a damn talented player, helping him even more than his big mouth does.

Subban has the confidence and swagger necessary to be quite the prominent figure if he ever were to hit La La Land.

Blake Griffin

Blake Griffin has quickly become one of the most prominent athlete spokesperson of our generation.

Pitching brands like Kia and GameFly, Griffin's in the City of Angels every single day, so it's only natural to think that he could more than hold his own if Hollywood ever came calling with a bigger role.

AJ McCarron

As if winning back-to-back national championships at one of the most prestigious college football programs isn't Hollywood enough, AJ McCarron decided to return for his senior season to try and get an unprecedented third in a row.

In terms of college football, the quarterback can do no wrong, which is why he would be smart to hold onto his model girlfriend Katherine Webb and continue hanging out with reigning Heisman winner Johnny Manziel.

There's sure to be some solid bro stories from that vacation.

Dwight Howard

If you've followed any of Dwight Howard's career thus far, you probably know that he loves drama.

While there's no denying he's an unbelievable athlete, and has the necessary skills to dominate any other big man in the league, Howard is a complete head case—which would make for fantastic TV.

His lone season in L.A. wasn't the best experience, but that doesn't mean it's his kryptonite—off the court at least. 

Patrick Kane

Though he's taken a step back in the past year, Patrick Kane is still one of the biggest party animals on the planet.

His rampage on the city of Madison, Wisconsin last Cinco de Mayo is legendary, and his bro personality would be even more epic should a production company come knocking on his door.

Chicago's a big city, but Kaner would be even bigger in L.A. 

Gabby Douglas

The gold-medal winning gymnast may only be 17-years-old, but don't mistake her for someone who can't hold her own.

After seeing instant success during her Olympic run last year, Gabby became an absolute star, causing Americans to adore her and her teammates.

With three more years left until the next Summer Games, she has plenty of time to grab a script or two.

Bryce Harper

One of the new guys who has broken into the mainstream, Nats outfielder Bryce Harper would absolutely explode in Los Angeles.

With memorable quotes, a Hollywood style—just check out that hair—and talent that earned him the 2012 MLB Rookie of the Year award, Harper would have the city salivating at his every scene. 

Russell Westbrook

Not only is the Thunder point guard a native of nearby Long Beach—with hometown roots that would appeal to the big city—he's got the charisma, personality and fashion sense to make it in the town.

Shaun White

When it comes to action sports, there isn't a more polarizing figure than Shaun White.

An absolute mogul at an early age, White has become the LeBron James of anything that involves a board, winning the majority of events he competes in—while having a damn good time doing it.

In addition to his skill, he's proven to be a pretty entertaining guy too. He could knock on any Hollywood producer's door and say, "Give me my own show" and he or she would do it in a heartbeat.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Of any soccer player on the planet right now, Cristiano Ronaldo's name is synonymous with popularity—especially amongst world football's female fanbase. 

Arguably the greatest striker in the world—though I prefer Lionel Messi myself—CR7 poses all the elements of a guy who would absolutely kill it in Hollywood.

He loves fast cars and flaunting both his money and fame. Sounds like the perfect trio to me. 

Peyton Manning

Though Peyton Manning may lack what some would call "swagger," that doesn't mean he's not one of the most entertaining athletes on the planet.

From his appearances on numerous commercials and comedy shows, it's obvious that Manning would have no difficulty going from the Mile High City to the Hollywood Hills.

Kevin Ware

The NCAA tournament may be over, but that doesn't mean that the unfortunate circumstances in which the world got to know Kevin Ware have faded away.

Though he sustained one of the most gruesome injuries ever seen in sports, the way that fans and celebs came together to show support was something not even a Hollywood movie could duplicate.

Alex Ovechkin

Though Alex Ovechkin endured some struggles over the past few seasons, he found his way atop the NHL's scoring list this year, proving that his game isn't really in decline.

Ovie's partying days may be over now that he's engaged, but he remains one of the biggest draws in hockey, so putting him anywhere close to the glitz and glam of Hollywood would make him that much bigger.

Aaron Rodgers

We mentioned a little earlier how Peyton Manning was one of the funniest guys in football, but Aaron Rodgers may be slowly catching up with him.

Even before winning his Super Bowl in 2011, Rodgers showed that he had a sense of humor.

Displaying his wits before each game, the Cali native would be quite the draw in the sun of Hollywood—if only the NFL could get a team in L.A. again. 

David Beckham

Haven't we already seen this script before? In his six seasons for the MLS' L.A. Galaxy, David Beckham brought excitement (and two MLS Cups) to the club.

His renowned global status helped draw both casual and celebrity fans to the pitch, popularizing the sport in the States—a huge goal for the team when he first came from across the pond.

LeBron James

In a non-literal way, is there really a bigger athlete on the planet than LeBron James?

After dropping the whole villain thing a couple years ago after leaving Cleveland, his first title last year loosened him up and allowed him to get back to having fun on the court.

Some of these other athletes would do really well in Hollywood, but seeing that there's already been a documentary made about LeBron, if he ever called L.A. home, he might just become Tinsel Town's MVP. 

Rob Gronkowski

There has been a ton of speculation about Rob Gronkowski getting his own reality show ever since he burst onto the sports and social scene a couple years ago.

Gronk's one of the most entertaining athletes in the world right now. If he said he wanted to stare at a wall with a beer in his hand, he would somehow make it fun—and Hollywood would eat it up.

Tim Tebow

Think about this for a second.

The same day that NBA veteran Jason Collins announced that he was gay, becoming the first active player in pro sports to do so, Tim Tebow was released by the New York Jets.

After such a monumental event in Collins' case, you'd think it would be the only thing being talked about right?

Wrong.

The media was still talking just as much about Tebow. Fair or not, that's the appeal that the polarizing quarterback has on the entire country.

Derek Jeter

In the words of Frank Sinatra, if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.

So, with respect to "Old Blue Eyes," I'd say that the longtime Yankees shortstop would have absolutely no problem with the bright lights of Hollywood shining on him—but that's something no New Yorker ever wants to even think about.

Kobe Bryant

He has the talent. He has the rings. Heck, he even has the girl.

Kobe Bryant is about as Hollywood as they come, so he undoubtedly deserves a spot on this list. 

Considering "The Mamba" has already taken control of Los Angeles, it's not even a question of whether he can do it or not—just if he wants to. 

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel is an absolute star.

The reigning Heisman trophy winning quarterback from Texas A&M is more than just an Internet sensation. He's blitzed the media better than almost any athlete this past year, giving us priceless party pics and plenty of unforgettable moments.

Considering he has a guy like Skip Bayless singing his praises, we're pretty sure he can do no wrong, and would embrace everything about the Hollywood lifestyle.
