There have been no further details revealed on the subject, but this has to suggest that the rumors of The Rock continuing with his part-time participation with the WWE are true.
This will not be the first time The Rock has been the featured wrestler on a WWE video game.ย
He was the feature performer on the first two SmackDown games for the PlayStation and was the sole face on the front of WWEโs first outing on the PlayStation 2.ย
The Rockโs catchphrases โKnow Your Role,โ โJust Bring Itโ and โShut Your Mouthโ were also used as the tag lines for the WWEโs three sequels after the inaugural SmackDown game.ย
The other wrestler to receive this honor is Brock Lesnar, whose โHere Comes The Painโ was used for the final SmackDown game before the series became SmackDown vs. Raw in 2004.
Last yearโs cover athlete was CM Punk. The reveal of his rather striking cover art was live on Raw.ย
It is also worth noting that this will be the first game produced by 2K Sports. THQ, the former games company that produced this established franchise, went bankrupt last year.ย
2K Sports produces games for the NBA and NHL, and are a subsidiary of a bigger company behind worldwide hit Grand Theft Auto.
It will have been ten years since The Rock was on the cover of a WWE video game. His presence will certainly attract non-wrestling fans to the product with his movie connections.
Ultimately, this is just a nice gesture by the WWE towards The Rock. What will matter is how good the game is when it comes out.
