Break Out the Brooms, Rangers Fans: We Are Goin' Sweeping!

Pat DorisApr 20, 2009

Yes that's right a sweep of the mighty Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin himself. With two upcoming games at MSG the Rangers are poised to sweep the Caps. The general expectations of this series were the Caps in six or seven. Oh, how the tides have turned!

Barring a major collapse from both sides (which won't happen) the Rangers are expected to meet the Boston Bruins in the second round of the Playoffs. "King" Henrik Lundqvist has once again carried this team on his back.

I shouldn't exactly say on his back because the Rangers have given him a lead in both games and he has delivered with clutch save after save.

The Rangers powerplay seems to have shook off the cob-webs and are showing good strides with their opportunities. Nik Antrapov has given the Rangers an element on the ice that they haven't had since Jaromir Jagr. Antrapov gives the Rangers a tremendous scoring threat who always needs to be accounted for while playing.

Now on to Mr. Ovechkin, what is going on? The leading goal scorer and most exciting player in the world can't score in the clutch? Or is it the fact that King Henrik is too much to handle? Lundqvist turns it up in the Playoffs every year he has been one of the most consistent goalies since entering the league four years ago.

Lundqvist has had 30+ wins all four years of playing. This year was probably his worst year and he still posted a career high 38 wins. He didn't nearly have as many shut-outs as last year but he still continued to be the rock for the Blue-shirts.

Oh, and when he got that shut-out in game two he was wearing a neck-brace or something like that. This is King Henrik's series and no one, and I mean not even Ovechkin can stop him!!!

Now what's a Ranger article or topic without my boy Sean Avery. The most beloved and hated man in hockey is back in the Playoffs, and once again he is showing why he is such an important part of this team.

He is getting under the skin of the Capitals stars like Ovechkin and defensemen Mike Greene who has the deadliest shot by a defensemen in the league. Avery is doing his job and doing it well by aggravating the Caps and drawing penalties. He's such an agitator who has a burst of playmaking ability along with his other attributes.

Other contributions from young players like Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan(Dubinsky GWG in Game One & Callahan GWG in Game Two) as well as defensemen Marc Staal and Dan Girardi who have shut down Ovechkin throughout the series.

LET'S GO RANGERS...LET'S GO RANGERS...LET'S GO RANGERS...LET'S GO RANGERS.
