WWE WrestleMania XXIX: Predictions for Each Match Outcome

Alex MussoJun 8, 2018

It's that time of year again.  We've traveled down the Road to WrestleMania, and all eyes are descending on MetLife Stadium in New York (OK fine, New Jersey).

With all matches set, it's time for wrestling fans everywhere to begin predicting the outcomes of each and every contest at the biggest annual event in pro wrestling.

So without further delay, here are Alex Musso's sure-fire predictions for WWE WrestleMania XXIX.  I'll keep them short and to the point.

Pre-Show: Wade Barrett (c) vs. The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

1 of 10

The Pre-Show will feature the WWE Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett vs. The Miz. This match looks to have been basically thrown together a few weeks ago to give Barrett and Miz something to do.  After all, not that long ago Miz was feuding with United States Champion Antonio Cesaro.

With that said, Barrett should retain his title.  Hopefully that will springboard him to greater heights.

Prediction: Wade Barret (c) def. The Miz to retain the Intercontinental Championship

Tons of Funk and the Funkadactyls vs. Team Rhodes Scholars and the Bella Twins

2 of 10

Hopefully this match opens the show.  Not that this match will be bad.  I expect to be entertained.  But the World Heavyweight Championship should not open the show.  It will keep the Money in the Bank suspense alive and, well, a world title opening a show is just disrespectful to the belt.

Anyway, Team Rhodes Scholars seems to be teaming a lot for a team that no longer is supposed to exist.  Clay and Tensai are gaining popularity, so I expect them to win this match.

Prediction: Tons of Funk and the Funkadactyls def. Team Rhodes Scholars and the Bella Twins

Chris Jericho vs. Fandango

3 of 10

Chris Jericho takes on Fandango (don't forget to let the A's breathe when you read this) in a match that many people think may actually steal the show.

Fandango, once known as Johnny Curtis, was last seen pouring milk all over himself in 2011. Then, Fandango almost debuted, then he went away, only to once again tease his debut a few months ago.  Finally, mercifully, the promos stopped and he appeared.

Actually, Fandango is mysterious, which makes him more interesting.  And without a match, Jericho may not know what he's getting into.  Fandango will dance his way into the win column this Sunday.

Prediction: Fandango def. Chris Jericho

Team Hell No (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston for the Tag Team Titles

4 of 10

Team Hell No has survived a lot longer than many people predicted.  They have held the WWE Tag Team Championship for 203 days, as of WrestleMania.

They face Big E Langston, the reigning NXT Champion (though that isn't acknowledged on WWE TV), and Dolph Ziggler, holder of the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank contract.

Hell No has had its issues, but always seems to overcome them.  But Big E looks to make a big impact in his WWE in-ring debut.  Something tells me, though, that Team Hell No will find a way to win one more time.

Prediction: Team Hell No (c) def. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship

Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Championship

5 of 10

In a match that garnered mainstream media attention for all the wrong reasons, Jack Swagger will try to take the World Heavyweight Championship from Alberto Del Rio and usher in a new era, called Jack Swagger's America.

Swagger has been running roughshod over his opponents lately, including Del Rio and his announcer Ricardo Rodriguez.  Del Rio has managed to build a solid title reign.  Swagger, who was hot two months ago, seems to have cooled off.  Seeing Del Rio retain by hook or by crook won't be a shocker.

Prediction: Alberto Del Rio def. Jack Swagger to retain the World Heavyweight Championship

Bonus Prediction: Dolph Ziggler cashes in his Money in the Bank contract and becomes the new World Heavyweight champion

Ryback vs. Mark Henry

6 of 10

Ryback and Mark Henry are on a collision course.  This match could very well be one of the better matches on the card.

Ryback needs this win.  He's lost every big match he's been in, and Mark Henry will push him to the limit.  But Ryback is starving for a win.  Henry on the other hand is looking to induct Ryback into the Hall of Pain.

Ryback may just have what it takes to take out the World's Strongest Man.

Prediction: Ryback def. Mark Henry

Sheamus, Randy Orton & Big Show vs. The Shield

7 of 10

Can anyone stop The Shield?  So far, no.  But their opponents this time are different.  The Shield has been battered and beaten by the team of Randy Orton, Sheamus and The Big Show.

Unlike any other opponents, Orton, Sheamus and Big Show have The Shield on the ropes. But The Shield is about justice.  And they'll do anything to enforce their brand of justice.

Orton, Sheamus and Big Show just don't look like they can overcome their differences, and that will cost them.

Prediction: The Shield def. Randy Orton, Sheamus and The Big Show

Bonus Prediction: Randy Orton turns heel and costs his team the win

Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H

8 of 10

In a rematch to last year's brawl at SummerSlam, Triple H takes on Brock Lesnar.  Many of the same personal issues have crept up in the build to this match.

But unlike last time, Triple H, if he loses, will never again be able to work for WWE in any capacity.  That's as big as it gets for the person who is the heir apparent to the WWE throne.

Brock Lesnar, hard as he may fight, may have made Triple H just angry enough to ensure The Game will be at his best.  Triple H isn't finished quite yet.

Prediction: Triple H def. Brock Lesnar

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

9 of 10

20-0.  It's a record that will never be duplicated.  Undertaker, after facing and defeating Shawn Michaels and Triple H twice each and ending Shawn Michaels' career in the process, faces yet another major threat to his perfect WrestleMania record.

CM Punk is looking to solidify his place in WWE history by being the "1"  in "20-1."  But can he do it?

Punk has harassed and disrespected Undertaker week after week, and he may have angered The Deadman more than he truly knows.  Undertaker is looking to destroy CM Punk. Undertaker may well be too much for CM Punk to handle.

Prediction: Undertaker def. CM Punk to go to 21-0 at WrestleMania

The Rock (c) vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship

10 of 10

In what is being billed as the biggest rematch in WrestleMania history, The Rock will defend his WWE Championship against John Cena.

The Rock, who defeated CM Punk at the Royal Rumble to become champion, looks to remain on top of WWE.  Cena, meanwhile, is looking for redemption.

Many suspect Cena may turn heel at WrestleMania.  Don't hold your breath.  Cena may do whatever it takes to regain the WWE Championship, but he ultimately wants the approval of the crowd.  Can he do it?  Will he gain redemption?

Yes, he will.

Prediction: John Cena def. The Rock to become the new WWE champion
