Minnesota Vikings' Seven-Round Mock Draft, Updated Apr. 11

Tanner ThomsApr 11, 2009

It's been over a week since I've updated my Vikings mock draft. The reason for this is because I've been slaving over my seven round mock draft for the entire NFL.

I don't want to leave people waiting for my next edition, so here it is.

Please enjoy the picks!

Round One: Hakeem Nicks, Wide Receiver, North Carolina

I decided that Hakeem Nicks would be the more likely pick for the Vikings over Jeremy Maclin. He will likely go to the Texans at pick No. 15.

Hakeem Nicks is a 6'1", 220-pound stud who was known for making unbelieveable catches at North Carolina. He once caught a pass behind his back, as seen in the article's picture.

He has been compared to Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin. He is known for using his size and speed to get separation from the opposing secondary.

Hakeem has the chance to bring play-making ability to the Vikings offense. He is the missing link to a good offense that can use a true No. 1 receiver.

Round Two: D.J. Moore, Cornerback, Vanderbilt

This pick would be an absolute steal for the Vikings. I've seen D.J. Moore being in the first round of several mock drafts.

I think the need for cornerbacks aren't that great, which is why his chances of falling to Minnesota are fairly high.

D.J. Moore is under-sized like Antoine Winfield, but he is a tremendous cover-corner. He would be tremendous depth behind Cedric Griffin and Antoine Winfield.

Round Three: Jason Watkins, Offensive Tackle, Florida

The need for a right tackle still hasn't been solved. Ryan Cook spent a lot of time there last year. He clearly isn't the right fit to start there.

The Vikings need a big and physical tackle who can block for Adrian Peterson for years to come.

Jason Watkins is 6'6", 320 pounds and a phenom on the line. I think he could be a diamond in the rough in the third round.

Round Four selection was traded to the Houston Texans for Quarterback Sage Rosenfels

Round Five: Jonathan Luigs, Center, Arkansas

So it's no breaking news, Matt Birk left the Vikings to sign with the Baltimore Ravens. Let's move on and focus strictly on the future.

Jonathan Luigs is a talented, 22 year old, from the University of Arkansas. He made himself into a great college center after blocking for a full season for Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.

Luigs is 6'4", 305 pounds of force. He has tremendous potential, and is currently moving up the draft boards.

Luigs and John Sullivan will battle for the starting job at center in 2009.

Round six selection was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for Quarterback Kelly Holcomb

Round Seven a: Mortty Ivy, Outside Linebacker, West Virginia

At this point, the Vikings are basically looking for the best player available. Minnesota could use depth at outside linebacker.

I, think, that Ben Leber will start for the Vikings for another year, but after that he might not be around for much longer. Who will take over for him?

Mortty Ivy is an under-rated. 6'3", 240-pound linebacker who was voted as West Virginia's most talented defensive player.

Round Seven b: Stephen Hodge, Safety, TCU

Once again, the best player available. Perhaps not a big need for Minnesota, but they could certainly use depth behind Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson.

I've heard a lot of good things recently on Mr. Hodge. He's a great special teams player and a tremendous linebacker as well as safety.

Stephen has been compared to former Dallas Cowboy, Roy Williams. He is practically the same height and weight. Hodge is 6"0, 230 pounds. Williams is 6"0, 228 pounds.
