Bold Prediction: The Phoenix Suns Will Make the Playoffs

Ari HoringApr 4, 2009

Remember, when it happens, that I said it right here: The Phoenix Suns will make the playoffs.

The Suns are currently three games back with six games left. So how is it that they are going to make the playoffs?

Well, the Suns luckily play the Mavericks on Sunday. If they can beat the Mavericks, they will be only two games back with five games left.

If you look at the remaining schedules between the Mavericks and Suns, you’ll see that the Mavericks' schedule is much harder.  Besides the Hornets, the Suns' schedule is extremely easy.

The Suns play the Grizzlies twice, the Timberwolves, and the Warriors. On the other hand, besides the Timberwolves, the Mavericks' schedule is extremely hard. The Mavericks play the Hornets twice, the  Rockets, and the Jazz.

If the Suns beat the Mavericks and their remaining opponents besides the Hornets, and the Mavericks go 3-3, they will be tied for the eighth spot. However, because they split the season series, the Suns will win the tie breaker because they have a better conference record. Suns: 26-20, Mavericks: 24-22.

However,  my bold prediction is relying on the Suns to beat the Mavericks tomorrow.  Tomorrow’s game very well could decide who makes the playoffs.
