Detroit Red Wings: Ian White Out 2-3 Weeks, Joins List of Injured Red Wings

Eric McKelvieJun 7, 2018

Defenseman Ian White joins a growing list of Detroit Red Wings players who will miss time due to injuries.

According to Ansar of Khan of MLive.com, White will be out for two to three weeks after undergoing surgery Wednesday morning to repair a laceration above his knee.

The veteran blueliner left during the third period of Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars, which the Red Wings lost 2-1. White was cut by Jimmy Howard’s skate and was sent to hospital after leaving the game, according to GM Ken Holland (via MLive.com).

Defenseman Kent Huskins, whom the Red Wings signed in the wake of a number of injuries on defense, played just over 15 minutes against the Stars, recording one hit and two blocked shots.

Carlo Colaiacovo, Huskins' teammate with the St. Louis Blues last season, will be out for three to four weeks with a shoulder injury. Colaiacovo sustained the injury when he was hit by Nick Foligno in the third period of Detroit’s 4-3 shootout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Defensmen Jonathan Ericsson and Jakub Kindl are also dealing with injuries. Ericsson has appeared in just one game this season after sustaining minor hip/shoulder injuries in practice and in Detroit’s first game. Kindl has yet to play this season because of a groin injury. However, Kindl should be back Friday against the Minnesota Wild, while Ericsson’s return remains a possibility as well.

Brian Lashoff of the Grand Rapids Griffins has also helped fill the holes on defense. Lashoff has scored one goal in his two appearances this season and is expected to play against the Wild.

Forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Darren Helm could be in the lineup as soon as Friday. Bertuzzi, who was originally thought to have mono, actually has the flu, while Helm is dealing with back issues.

The statuses of Mikael Samuelsson and Jonas Gustavsson are less certain. According to Khan, both are questionable for Friday.
