WWE Royal Rumble 2013: Will John Cena Win This Year's Royal Rumble?

Luis CamposJun 6, 2018

During the latest edition of Monday Night Raw, John Cena promised the WWE Universe that he would win this year's Royal Rumble. The promise could have been an empty one used to promote the upcoming pay-per-view event, but could Cena's latest promo be a sign of things to come?

The last time that John Cena promised to win something was the weeks leading up to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view in which Cena promised to capture the WWE Championship Money in the Bank contract. True to his words Cena would win the match's briefcase—later cashing it in during Raw's 1000th episode.

Winner of the 2008 Royal Rumble, Cena is no stranger to winning the classic WWE pay-per-view, but could this year be the boast another Cena Rumble win?

Cena winning the Royal Rumble is in many ways a double edge sword. Another undeserved victory for Cena would be an insult to non-Cena fans, but there is no doubt that Cena draws cash and that having him win could lead to bigger matches down the road.

Although the Royal Rumble has been used to propel rising stars in the past—like Sheamus last year—Cena taking the spotlight from a younger stat could set up another "match of a lifetime" for this year's WrestleMania.

In the end, it seems that Cena's chances of winning this year are high. Will the short term again for Cena be a long term gain for pro-wrestling fans come WrestleMania time? That still remains to be seen.
