Buying or Selling Miami Heat's Latest Trade Chatter

Peter EmerickJun 6, 2018

There's about as much trade chatter surrounding the Miami Heat as there are people talking about the legitimacy of the 2012 Mayan apocalypse.

No one cares about Heat trade rumors, because well, there aren't any, and for good reason too.

Why would a team with the best record in the Eastern Conference be looking to make changes to the roster?

That might seem like a rhetorical question, but it's actually not.

While there are no current trade rumors circulating around the Heat, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any.

The reason why the Heat aren't rumored to be looking to make any trades at the moment is because they don't have the assets to trade and they don't have the space on their payroll to legitimately consider anything, either.

Adding frontcourt depth is a major need for the Heat, but it's not going to happen in the trade market because they don't have any players who are worth trading.

Aside from moving a player like Mario Chalmers, the Heat don't have much to offer other teams.

You don't think teams are salivating over making a trade for players like James Jones, Joel Anthony or Norris Cole, do you?

Trading Chalmers makes the most sense, but the problem is that he hasn't been playing well enough to garner the interest of anyone around the league.

The other issue is that, like it or not, the Heat need Chalmers running the point.

He knows the offense. He's proven that he can produce and contribute when the Heat need him to. And he's also been with the Heat long enough to have established chemistry with the Big Three.

That may seem trivial, but in reality it's not. Chemistry wins championships, and Chalmers helps bring that to the court for Miami.

The point is, while the Heat have needs in the paint, there's no way that they'll be making any noise in the trade world this season.

With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh making a combined $52 million this season (according to Hoops Habit), the Heat don't have much room to add anyone significant to their roster.

That is, unless they part ways with one of the Big Three. I'll go out on a limb and say that's not going to happen.

Sorry, Heat fans, no trades for you.
