The Secret Life Of a Pro-Wrestler, My Personal Experience Part Two: The Meeting

Joe Burgett Mar 25, 2009

In the last part of the series Secret Life of a Pro-Wrestler, I talked about how I got into the business. It was weird I know, but really not something anyone would think. If you have not seen it, you can check it out by clicking here

You may want to check it out first so you can understand this one. In any case here is Part Two.

When I was told to meet with John Laurinitus, I was excited. I mean who wouldn't be? He is the guy who can help make you or break in you in the WWE. And having him on your side helps.

I was told to meet with him at a near by restaurant, where he would ask me a few questions. I guess he wanted to get to know me or something.

I went inside the restaurant, I asked if there was a reservation under Laurinitus. They said he had just arrived and went to sit me at the table.

My whole body was tingling, my face was sweating, and my hands were clammy. I just hoped it would subside by the time I got to the table shortly.

Then it happened, I finally arrived. I saw the man, the myth, the legend, John Laurinitus. He shook my hand, and I tried to speak. It didn't work.

I quickly drank some of the water on the table and sat down. He told me that he had heard about me from a well known FCW Wrestler. And he said that he liked what he heard, and figured I could be a nice addition to the WWE.

And he wanted me of course to get training in the local area of FCW. I asked him: "Why me?"

He said: "You have something special" What that was I didn't know, so I asked. He said: "You have something that many do not have, a connection to the audience. I have seen guys like Cena, Jericho, and Orton. All have a connection with the audience. Which is why the are successful.

If we can use you in the fan gimmick, and build you up over time. the crowd will have no choice but to like you. Because you are one of them."

I was so astounded by what he said, but it made sense. Was I the only person who could do this? No. Was I the one who they saw potential in? You better believe it.

I was so excited by what he said I blacked out from some of the other questions, so there was more I'm sure. I just can't remember them.

But the one he asked me that I did remember was this: Do you want to be a World Wrestling Entertainment Sports Entertainer?

I quickly said: "Yes."

He said: "Great."

We finished out meals and were about to leave. He said for me to come to the FCW arena tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

I, of course, would be there.

But what would I be learning there? Would I learn how to do some of the greatest wrestling moves of all time?

Would I learn how to do my own finisher?

What would happen?

I was so excited that I could hardly get any sleep the night before. I needed it as I would have a huge day ahead of me.

I woke up at 8:00 the next morning. I was still on central time because I had not set my clocks after only being in Florida for a day, which was not great because it was 9:00 Florida time!

I had one hour to get there, which I felt I could make. That was if I got dressed quickly, drove like a maniac from the hotel, and skipped breakfast.

Luckily the traffic was good that day, and it flowed well. I was able to get there at about 9:56.

Four minutes before 10:00 was not to shabby in my opinion. I walked through the doors of FCW and I knew my wrestling life was about to begin.
