Twitter Reacts to James Shields Trade to the Kansas City Royals
The Tampa Bay Rays traded starting pitchers James Shields, Wade Davis and a player to be named later to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday night. In return the Rays received Royals top prospect Wil Myers, right-handed pitcher Jake Odorizzi, left-handed pitcher Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard.
As with any other trade or player transaction we won’t know whether the deal will be a difference maker for either team until games are played.
Fortunately, Twitter waits for nothing. Here are some of the best reactions after the trade was announced.

Let's start with a little holiday-themed humor.

Followed by a little trade trivia courtesy of Jonathan Gantt from the Rays Communications staff.

A lot of Royals fans will be wondering if they got enough in return in the trade for their top prospect.
"Giving up the #1 and #3 prospect in your organization is suppose to land you David Price , not James Shields..

Jon Morosi pointed out what the Rays lost in Shields and what the Royals gain in him and Davis.
"Shields is obviously a huge loss for Rays. Gave them excellent, reliable innings every year. Means a lot to young rotation in that division.

"Royals get seven years of control – two on Shields (’14 club option) and five on Davis (’16 and ’17 club options).

Radio host Toby David points out what the trade means for Shields who grew up in the Tampa Bay organization.
"Shields has been with #Rays since he was 18. He almost 31 now. He's been thru the ups and downs. This is unfortunate side of baseball.

There is always the what-if part of the discussion when dealing with prospects.
"If Wil Myers is half as good as scouting report & Minor League record suggest, #Royals will rue the day they dealt him. #Rays#HotStove#MLB

No better tweets, than those of now former teammates wishing it's not true.
"Guys guys guys there's been a huge misunderstanding...whenever we all wake up tomorrow Shields and WD40 will still be my teammates...😒😢
