Dana White Admits That Johny Hendricks 'Deserves' and 'Will Get' Title Shot
In wake of the news that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will likely fight Nick Diaz next, UFC president Dana White admits that Johny Hendricks has gotten the short end of the stick.
White took notice of a Twitter interaction between "Big Rigg" and Mike Thiessen, assuring the welterweight contender he will get a shot at UFC gold eventually:
"@johnyhendricks @danawhite @georgesstpierre Johnny u should be saying. "George!! Come on!! Don't be scared homie!!!" That earns title shots!
— Mike Thiessen (@MikeThiessenUFC) December 6, 2012"
White responded:
"@johnyhendricks I agree that u deserve it and u will get ur shot
— Dana White (@danawhite) December 7, 2012"
The announcement that Diaz had jumped the line for a title shot has irked many fans, being that the Cesar Gracie black belt lost his last outing at UFC 143 in February against Carlos Condit.
On the other hand, Hendricks has won five in a row, including knockouts over perennial contenders Jon Fitch and more recently Martin Kampmann, at UFC 154.
Shortly after UFC 154, in which "Rush" also successfully defended his belt against Condit after an 18-month layoff due to an ACL tear, Hendricks stated that he has no intentions of fighting again unless it's for the title.
Is GSP vs. Diaz the right fight to make given the number of pay-per-views it will sell, or is it unfair to allow someone with Hendricks' resume to get passed over?
