Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Mario Gomez Would Be Wise Acquisition for Blues

Richard LangfordMay 31, 2018

Chelsea desperately need someone, anyone who can score. Bayern Munich forward Mario Gomez can do just that.

CaughtOffSide.com's Christian Bailey reports that Chelsea are ready to try and make this partnership happen:

"

Chelsea are reportedly considering making an official approach for Bayern Munich forward Mario Gomez as Blues owner Roman Abramovich readies significant funds to be made available for January additions to his Stamford Bridge squad.

The Blues have to do something, this much is undeniable. The offense has struggled all year and it is not getting any better. In fact, it is getting worse.

The Blues have netted just three goals in their last six matches. That is simply an anemic total and it has been a painful stretch to watch. There is also nothing to suggest that this problem will fix itself.

One of the big reasons that Rafael Benitez was given the reins of Chelsea is that it was thought the manager would be able to coax some sort of revitalization of Fernando Torres.

What has happened instead is that Torres has just further proven he has little ability or concern to resemble the player who used to actually score.

All the while, the slow-paced offense is alienating fans at breakneck speeds. They need a boost, and Gomez would provide it.

Gomez, 27, is a proven scorer. He has led his Bavarian side in scoring the last two years by notching 41 goals in the last campaign and 39 in the preceding one.

He has been hampered by injury recently and missed some time, but this is only making it more realistic that Chelsea will be able to acquire him.

It's not like Bayern Munich will be eager to part with Gomez, but they do have Mario Mandzukic, who has impressed while Gomez has been out. This makes Gomez expendable for the right price.

That price isn't going to be a cheap one, but it will be well worth it for Chelsea. The Blues have talent and they are third in the EPL. They just need to find a way to boost their scoring.
