Kansas City Royals: 2008—The Season of Success

Tony MuzzilloMar 23, 2008

Many of you out there may be thinking again that the Kansas City Royals have no chance of winning this season.

In the past, you may have been right...But no this year.

Why am I of that opinion?  Let me just lay it out there for you.

First of all, let's start with management.  The Royals have hired new manager and club leader Trey Hillman whose mentality is “win now.”  Hillman showed success in Japan and has a lot to prove in the big leagues.

Now you ask yourselves, "Will that success translate in the Majors?"

Unlike many people, I have paid attention to the Royals’ Spring Training and I have liked what I've seen.

Our bats and gloves are awake like I've never seen before.  Our pitcher's arms are hanging loose and placing the pitches where they need to be.  I'm not saying that all is cheery and bright for every player trying to secure a Major League opportunity but for the guys who are really up pushing and trying, the appointment to "the Bigs" will be there.

Hillman, it seems, has the machinery situated for victory in place.

Do I see a pennant and a World Series in the near future?

Realistically, yes. I do see the ultimate baseball success in the Royals’ crystal ball although that may not be for another two or three years.

Of course, I would love to see it this year, but again, I'm being a situational realist in that category.

However, as the old addage goes, "Anything can happen," and this is just as true in baseball as it is in everything else.

With the bat power, smart base running, defense, and pitching, the Kansas City Royals are definitely headed in the right direction.

Next up comes the winning that the fans have longed for since '85 and '03.
