Texans vs. Titans: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Spread Info, Game Time and More

Alex HallJun 7, 2018

In a matchup featuring teams going in very different directions, the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans will face off in Week 13.

This AFC South battle is one that could inch the Texans one win closer to becoming divisional champions. It's also one that would give Titans fans something to brag about all through the offseason if Tennessee knocked off its 10-1 rivals.

Divisional games are never easy victories and this has all the makings of a proverbial trap game for Houston. With pride and playoff positioning on the line, this is a game to keep an eye on come Sunday.

What's At Stake?

The Titans are currently 4-7 on the year, which is a far cry from their nine-win season in 2011. In order to replicate 2011's record the team would have to win the remainder of its games.

Tennessee is all but guaranteed to miss the postseason for third-straight year. This Week 13 game is all about playing for pride and proving there is promise for next year. If Jake Locker and co. can find a way to play upset and take down the Texans, that will create hope around Nashville.

For the Texans, this game is all about stepping closer to the inevitable and clinching the AFC South. Another victory and one against a divisional opponent would go a long way towards that goal.

The Indianapolis Colts are playing the thorn in the side of Houston's AFC South championship hopes. Still, a victory over the Titans would force the Colts to win their bout with Detroit to keep the divisional gap where it currently stands.

The Titans are just looking to instill hope in their fanbase and themselves for next year, whereas the Texans are playing to better their Super Bowl aspirations.

Fantasy Plays

Tennessee Titans: RB Chris Johnson

It's hard to recommend starting any of the Titans' offensive weapons other than Chris Johnson. Quarterback Jake Locker has not shown a bias towards either Kenny Britt or Nate Washington, and all three are unusable this late in fantasy seasons.

Johnson isn't even a lock to put up quality numbers against Houston's No. 2 rushing defense, but he's the only Titan worth considering.

To CJ2K's credit, he hasn't posted less than 80 yards on the ground since Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings. Since then, he's had four touchdowns and three games with more than 100 yards.

If you have to play a Titan in Week 13, it's Johnson or nobody.

Houston Texans: WR Andre Johnson

Last week against Detroit was an aerial battle between Chris Houston and Andre Johnson. In that contest, Johnson had 15 targets, nine catches and 188 receiving yards. Even without a trip to the end zone, those numbers are enough to make any manager drool.

The Titans are 27th in the NFL against the pass and will have difficulty covering Johnson with a secondary allowing 262 yards a game through the air.

Johnson has recorded almost 400 yards receiving over the past two games. Let that sink in. While those games came against the Lions and Jaguars' pass defense, as noted, the Titans aren't much better.

It's likely that Arian Foster will have a solid performance against Tennessee's No. 27 rushing defense as well, but if you're not a Foster owner, Johnson is the Texan to start here.

What They Are Saying

The fallout from Detroit defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh's kick to Houston's Matt Schaub on Thanksgiving continues. The Texans' quarterback went on Sports Radio 610 (Via ESPN.com) Nov. 26th and proclaimed he wouldn't want to share a locker room with the Lions' first-round draft pick.

"You don't want a player like that. The stuff that he stands for and the type of player he is, that's not Houston Texan-worthy," Schaub told the radio station.

Not to miss out in all the Week 12 fallout fun, the Titans have their fair share of Week 12 controversy to discuss.

In what looked to be a touchdown throw in the fourth quarter from Locker to receiver Damian Williams, the officials took a second look and ruled the latter out of bounds. A touchdown would have given Tennessee the lead over Jacksonville late in the final quarter.

Williams still thinks that he got both his feet down and should have been awarded the six points, telling Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean:

"

I really thought it was in, but I guess there wasn’t obvious evidence to overturn it. I guess they couldn’t tell from the replay, and I couldn’t when I looked at it either. I definitely tried my best, and it didn’t happen.

"

Wyatt had his hands full on Nov. 26, with the Titans also firing offensive coordinator Chris Palmer that day. The Tennessean reporter broke the news via his personal Twitter account, tweeting:

"

#Titans fire offensive coordinator Chris Palmer. QB coach Dowell Loggains promoted to OC tnne.ws/V38a55

Key Matchup: Titans run defense vs. Arian Foster

As much as the Texans should exploit the Titans' secondary, their attack will be centered around running back Arian Foster as always. With five weeks still to go this regular season, he's already posted more than 1,000 yards on 269 attempts.

The Texans do have studs like Johnson to throw the football to, but the way those players get open is through the defense having to respect the run game.

Foster will get his chance second chance to wear down the Titans' defense this season. He posted 86 yards and one touchdown in the first meeting between Houston and Tennessee this season.

Houston will look to get Foster going early and often as it always does. The only chance the Titans have at an upset is by shutting him down.

Prediction

The defensive disadvantage that Tennessee has does not bode well for its chances in this game. The Texans have more than enough talent on offense to take advantage of a weak Titans D on paper.

Football is not played on paper, but considering Foster has rushed for less than 80 yards twice all year and Johnson's recent outburst, this offense is looking good.

Tennessee has home-field advantage and knows the Texans as good as any team, but it just doesn't have the personnel to matchup with a potential Super Bowl-bound team.
