Tennessee Titans Mock Draft: Early Predictions for 2013 NFL Draft

Chad MintonJun 3, 2018

Since the Tennessee Titans have been so unpredictable this season, it's hard to say where exactly the Titans will pick in the 2013 NFL Draft in April.

One thing is for certain and it's that they have to beef up their defense in the draft, and not shock everyone by going for another wide receiver.

There are plenty of solid defensive prospects to choose from in this year's draft class, but offensive line is another area the Titans should focus on.

A lot still has to happen before we get a good feel of where the Titans might go. With that said, here's what would be ideal if the draft order stayed where it is right now.

First Round: Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State, CB

1 of 6

Johnthan Banks has had a very solid four years at Mississippi State that includes 16 interceptions.

The Titans need a lockdown corner who can improve their pass defense that has gotten worse and worse over the last few seasons.

It was thought that the Titans would go with a defensive player in last year's draft, but the drafting of Kendall Wright caught everyone off guard.

The Titans can't do that this season, and getting a highly touted SEC cornerback would be a smart move.

Have an open competition in training camp to see if Banks can beat out Jason McCourty or Alterraun Verner for a starting job in Week 1.

Second Round: T.J. McDonald, Southern California, S

2 of 6

Michael Griffin just hasn't been panning out this season, and the Titans have to begin preparing for the worst scenario.

The truth is that the Titans have really gotten thin at this position, even after drafting Markelle Martin last season in the sixth round. Unfortunately for the Titans, Martin hasn't seen a single snap in a Titans uniform in preseason or the regular season.

You win some and you lose some with your draft picks, and the Titans can't afford to not address safety once again in the draft.

T.J. McDonald out of USC is a guy who has all the tools to be something special in the NFL. He's got great speed for his size, and could make an immediate impact for this defense.

This Titans defense has to begin making an identity for itself once again.

He's projected to go in the second round, so the Titans should jump all over this opportunity if he's available.

Third Round: Alvin Bailey, Arkansas, OG

3 of 6

There's no question that the offensive line has slumped in a big way this season, which played a big part in why Chris Johnson got off to such an ugly start.

That ugly start left a few wins on the table, most notably the loss to San Diego.

If the Titans are ever going to return to the top of the AFC, they have to be deep at offensive line to make sure Johnson's abilities are maximized in the running game.

With two major weaknesses on the defense already addressed, this would mark a good time in the draft to go for a big offensive guard to bulk up the offensive line for Johnson and Jake Locker.

Alvin Bailey has been a mainstay on the Arkansas offensive line since 2009 and was a big reason why Arkansas enjoyed so much success in 2011.

This would be a smart pick for the Titans in the third round, as their top three weaknesses will be taken care of heading into the back end of the draft.

Fourth Round: Malliciah Goodman, Clemson, DE

4 of 6

This would be an ideal time to add some depth to a defensive line that's improving but could definitely get a lot better.

As a unit, the Titans still rank just 29th in the NFL in sacks with just 16. Last season they finished with 28 as a team.

The secondary will improve if the Titans can develop a strong pass rush, and a guy with Malliciah Goodman's size could really help with that.

Clemson certainly isn't known for its defense, but that's not at the fault of Goodman's.

Goodman has a good motor and the strength you really like to see in a defensive end to overpower offensive linemen.

Derrick Morgan is starting to come along for the Titans, and Kamerion Wimbley has proved to be a moderate addition. Adding some depth would still be wise.

Fifth Round: Silas Redd, Southern California, RB

5 of 6

Despite Chris Johnson finally coming into form here in the middle of the 2012 season, something still doesn't sit right with the Titans' current situation at running back.

Javon Ringer has struggled to stay healthy, while Jamie Harper has hardly seen the field at all in his second NFL season.

Darius Reynaud has been a somewhat pleasant surprise, but he's not a guy who can be an every-down running back if things go sour with Johnson down the road.

The Titans have to stay ahead of this possible problem and get another promising running back to be ready to go.

Silas Redd is quietly having a solid season for USC after transferring from Penn State before this season.

Redd is projected to go around the fourth or fifth round, so the Titans could certainly get Redd for a steal in the fifth round and get a guy who has great elusiveness to go with decent power between the tackles.

Seventh Round: Joe Madsen, West Virgnia, C

6 of 6

It's anyone's guess at what the right move would be in the seventh round for the Titans, but adding another piece to a thin offensive line wouldn't hurt.

There's been a void that has yet to be filled at center since Kevin Mawae retired in 2009.

Eugene Amano has never really worked out, and Fernando Velasco has done what he can at center this season. Velasco would probably be more effective moving back to guard instead of center.

The Titans need to snatch up another young center to begin prepping up for the future, and it wouldn't be bad move here with all of the other glaring weaknesses addressed up to this point.
