Bad Apples: Oklahoma, Tony LaRussa, Nancy Grace
Ron JohnsonJul 17, 2007
Some people just don't get it.The last week has seen its share of rectal-cranial inversion in the sports world—from the Oklahoma football program to Tony LaRussa to Nancy Grace.
Here's a rundown of all those Bad Apples who need to pull their heads out of their @$$es:
Bummer Sooner
In a scene straight out of Blue Chips, a few bad apples on Oklahoma's tree cost the football program dearly.
The Sooners were found guilty of "failure to monitor" the employment of their players, including QB Rhett Bomar and O-lineman J.D. Quinn. As a result, Oklahoma must sacrifice two scholarships and vacate their 2005 season altogether.
My take: Why punish the entire Oklahoma program for something a car dealership did? Did Bob Stoops know anything about Bomar and Quinn's behavior? I for one believe that Brad McRae is entirely at fault.
McRae is the reason Stoops will be spending two more years on probation—and McRae's dealership should be burned to the ground to keep him from corrupting any more Sooners player.
To Quinn, Romar, McRae, and the people of Big Red Sports and Imports: You idiots ruined a program. You are truly some bad apples.
And it's too bad everyone who followed the rules has to go down with you.
Seeing Red
The fallout from the MLB All-Star Game isn't done yet.
Tony LaRussa has been ridiculed in St. Louis and around the country for his failure to pinch-hit Albert Pujols for Aaron Rowand in the ninth inning. His bonehead decision may well have soured the Cards clubhouse enough to prevent the team from making a run in the second half of the season.
I pose this question to SportsNation: Was LaRussa's decision not to play Pujols a good one or a bad one? I may be a Cards fan—but that won't stop me from calling LaRussa a bad apple.
And I don't think anyone would fault Big Al if he feels like chopping down his manager's tree.
Fall from Grace
You know the Chris Benoit story has been played out when the only person still covering it is Nancy Grace.
The former DA/current Ice Queen expects her guests to play by her rules. Is she serious? I don't know about anyone else, but if I want to listen to some cold, pathetic excuse for an attorney, I'll just call my former mother-in-law.
There's a reason Grace is a former DA, and there's a reason no one else is talking about Benoit. We've all moved on. What's your excuse, Nancy?
Maybe some apples really are rotten to the core.
