Tottenham Winter Transfer News: Tracking Latest Rumours

When it comes to transfer stories, Tottenham Hotspur are always a favourite among the rumour mongers.

A well-established Premier League club with a decent transfer kitty and ambitions of joining the big boys as regular title challengers makes a killer combination for any agent or journalist looking for some inches in the gossip columns.

As the January transfer window opens in a little under two months' time, here is a round-up of some of the stories involving Spurs which have been published over the past week.

Wilfried Zaha

The young Crystal Palace forward made his debut as a 17-year-old in the 2009-10 season, and he has barely looked back since.

He is already well on his way to bettering his tally of six league goals from last term, having already netted four times in this campaign.

The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are in "pole position" to sign the Ivory Coast-born England Under-21 international, although they apparently face stiff competition from the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Liverpool. 

Alvaro Negredo

Few players have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane as regularly over the past five years as Negredo.

The Sevilla striker seems to be on the verge of being signed by Spurs every single transfer window, only for him to remain in Spain once the deadline passes.

According to the Daily Star (who illustrate their story with a picture of the 27-year-old playing for former club Real Madrid) Spurs will make yet another bid to sign the Euro 2012-winning forward this winter.

Toby Alderweireld

Yet another one of a hugely talented generation of young Belgian players, the Ajax defender is a graduate of Ajax's famed academy.

The 23-year-old is in his fifth season as a professional at the Amsterdam club, and his versatility makes him a highly-prized commodity.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Newcastle have both been told that they will have to pay top dollar for the defender despite his contract running into its last 18 months come the New Year.

Dieumerci Mbokani

The flamboyantly-named striker is currently in his second spell at Belgian champions Anderlecht, where he is currently in a rich vein of domestic form.

The DR Congo international has scored six goals in just eight league games so far this term to go with the five he has already netted in the Champions League, although each of those strikes came in the preliminary rounds.

The 26-year-old's agent, via talkSPORT, claims that Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in his client, along with London rivals Fulham and Serie A duo Juventus and Fiorentina.

William Gallas

There is plenty of talk about players arriving at Tottenham, but there is one player who could be leaving soon.

William Gallas has been given the captain's armband this season, but at the age of 35 and with his contract expiring next summer, his future at the club is far from certain.

The Sun reports that Spurs are not willing to discuss giving the former France international defender another year-long deal until his current one runs out. Gallas may be considering moving elsewhere in January if another club is willing to offer him a longer deal.
