WWE Profile #2: Edge's Life Of Sex Drugs and Wrestling

I got such a great response from my first profile on Shawn Michaels I decided to write two more right away. The other profile on the Hardy Boys can be found on my profile.  So here we go...

Adam “Edge” Copeland is one of the WWE’s top entertainers, and has been so for the past decade. With eight World heavyweight and WWE title reigns, along with his dozens of other titles, he has cemented his legacy in the WWE.

Edge began wrestling at a young age in the independent circuit in the US, Canada and Japan. Edge and Christian went by The Canadian Rockers while in Japan as a nod to one of their favorite teams, the Rockers.

Edge started out in the WWE as a loner who entered through crowd rather than coming down the ramp. His first major feud was with Gangrel and his storyline brother Christian.  Christian and Edge were already best friends and having a similar look made then ideal for a brother angle.

Edge and Christian soon set aside their differences and joined forces to become one of the greatest tag teams in all of the WWE. Their monumental feud with the Hardyz propelled them to the top of the WWE. 

These two teams competed in the first ever tag team ladder match as well as the first second and third TLC matches  Edge and Christian held seven tag team championships together, which is one of the best records in tag team wrestling.

E&C were known as a cocky tag team, who would pose for five seconds before their matches for the benefit of those with flash photography.  Their antics earned them many fans, even thought they were a heel team most of the time. 

Edge Won the King of the Ring tournament proving he was force to reckon with. Edge and Christian would part ways and feud over the IC title a few years later. The two even met in a Brother vs. Brother Ladder match for the strap. Edge held the Intercontinental belt seven times which was the record until Chris Jericho made eight the new record. 

Edge went on to make another milestone as he is the only man to ever combine the IC and US titles. His match with Test was great and it goes to show that an amazing performer like Edge can carry a mediocre performer like Test.  I like test but he has never been a break out star.  Edge went on to feud with Kurt Angle which ended in a hair vs. hair match which Edge won.

Edge formed a successful tag team with Rey Mysterio who won one tag team championship.  Edge also gained another tag championship with his childhood hero Hulk Hogan. The two beat the team of Billy and Chuck on Smackdown.

During this match you could see how much Edge truly revered the immortal Hulk Hogan.  Edge ended up suffering a neck injury that in most cases would end a career, but it only kept him out of the ring about a year. Upon his return he won yet another tag title With Chris Benoit. 

Edge’s real-life affair with Lita made him one of the most hated heels in the entire business. This led to a huge feud with Matt Hardy which made for some of the best hardcore style matches in recent history. They competed in a street fight, cage match and ladder match which ended up sending Matt to Smackdown.

Edge had many different feuds but the one that sticks out to me is his feud with Mick Foley.  Their hardcore match proved that not only could Foley still perform, but that Edge could keep up with the best hardcore wrestler of all time.

Edge also gained another tag championship with his childhood hero Hulk Hogan. The two beat the team of Billy and Chuck on Smackdown. During this match you could see how much Edge truly revered the immortal Hulk Hogan.

Edge won the first money in the bank match, furthering his image as a ladder match specialist. Edge would have a match with Matt for the briefcase which would lead to Matt going to Smackdown. 

Edge used his case to win his first world title.  He did this by using the case after Cena had just won an elimination chamber match and was thoroughly beat up already.

The WWE title had been held by John Cena for most of the previous three years and the fans were glad to see a change, even if it was a change they never would have wanted. Edge and Cena’s feud would be the mainstay of Raw for the better part of a year. Their matches would headline many PPV’s and would elevate both of their careers. 

Edge would join forces with the incomparable Randy Orton to form the tag team Rated RKO. They ended up winning the tag team titles very quickly. They feuded with the newly reformed DX for awhile and ended up putting HHH on the shelf for months. They even went as far as to attack Ric flair and viciously give him a conchairto. 

Edge won his second money in the bank case when he attacked Mr. Kennedy and then won their match for the case in 8 seconds.  He would jump to smackdown and use his case to take advantage of a weakened Undertaker.  Edge would feud with Batista and the Taker for the World Heavyweight championship for months.

The storyline of Edge and Vickie Guererro being lovers would make both of them two of the most hated people in all of wrestling. Vickie can barely be heard over the boos she receives, and Edge has received enormous heat for their many on screen kisses.  Their relationship has led to some of Edges title wins and has also been the catalyst for many good angles. 

The stable Edge formed with Chavo, Hawkins, Rider and Vickie was also responsible for Chavo winning his biggest championship to date The ECW title.  While it may not be held in the same category as the big two, it helped show that Chavo can have great matches with the likes of CM Punk and John Morrison.

For most of 2008 Edge fought over the world heavyweight title with Batista and The Undertaker. These three men headlined almost all of the Dmackdown main events during PPV events. Edge had two matches in particular that stick out.  His TLC and Hell in the cell matches with the undertaker were two of the more physical matches in recent history. The fall the Taker took from the 20ft ladder through two tables was incredible.  

Edge was also involved in the angle that led to his long time rival, Jeff Hardy, winning the WWE title for the first time.  Edge has proven that he is willing to put over other talent in many instances throughout his career. 

Edge has fought over the title with the best in the business including HHH, Batista, The Undertaker and Jeff Hardy. He is also the first person to walk into a PPV the world champ and walk out the WWE champ. By doing this he also became the first person to ever compete in the elimination chamber twice in one night. 

Edge has set numerous records in the WWE including being the first, and only two time, Mr. Money in the bank, he has held more tag team championships than anyone else in the WWE and he has also held every title he possibly can in the WWE including the defunct Hardcore and European titles.

Edge has become the WWE’s greatest heels and will no doubt be a candidate for the WWE hall of fame someday. He is still young enough to go onto iconic status. gHis potential is endless, and his skills in the ring and on the mic are hard to match. Given the chance Edge could carry the torch for the WWE for another decade of decadence.  Sorry, but i had to use his DVD title in there somewhere.
