Trevor Hoffman Will Not Be Missed

RCAMar 13, 2009

Authors Note: I wrote this not to criticize Trevor, but to just say that I have moved on from the Trevor Hoffman era in San Diego, and that I believe that Trevor Hoffman is no longer the player he once was, and I have moved on. Any profanity in the comments WILL BE FLAGGED.

As the 2009 season begins, Trevor Hoffman is a Brewer. After 15 years as a Padre, Trevor Hoffman has moved on.

So have I.

I was and still am a big fan of Trevor Hoffman, but after that blown save against the Rockies, I believe that to this day, Trevor Hoffman has never been the same. In 2008, Hoffman had 30 saves, compared to his 42 in 2007.

2008 was the first year since 2003 when he had less than 40 saves.

However, Hoffman appeared in only 48 games, a five year low, but whenever he did come in, it was rarely a 1-2-3 inning. We always had to hold our breaths whenever he allowed any runners to reach base.

I do not dislike Trevor Hoffman. I am a huge fan of his. Hoffman is still one of the best Padres ever.

But the Trevor Hoffman era is over in San Diego.

I will not miss Trevor Hoffman in San Diego, and I have accepted the fact that he is a Brewer. I do not like that he is a Brewer, but, once again, I have moved on.

Padres GM Kevin Towers hopes Trevor will be a Padre again.

The following quote is from an article on www.brewers.com :"I'm still holding out hope that he throws his last game for us in San Diego," Towers said. "Whether that means he signs a contract and throws one last save and retires, for me that would be the perfect way for him to close it out. He throws his last save for the Padres and tips his cap. That's my hope."

That's my hope too.
