Week 8 NFL Predictions: Teams That Will Bounce Back from Losses

Jesse ReedMay 31, 2018

The Washington Redskins lost a heartbreaker last week to the New York Giants, but this team is ready to bounce back in a big way in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Redskins aren't the only NFL team that will recover from a loss in Week 7, either.

There have only been two teams in NFL history to finish the regular season without a single loss. As it is with all other sports, the key to winning over the long haul in this league is responding well to failures.

These teams are ready to answer the call and will respond well to disappointing Week 7 losses by winning this week.

Washington Redskins at Pittsburgh Steelers

Robert Griffin III almost pulled off an amazing comeback win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium last week, but Eli Manning and Victor Cruz had different ideas.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat up on a struggling Cincinnati Bengals team, mostly due to an extremely poor performance from an ever-regressing Andy Dalton.

The Steelers passing offense isn't hitting on all cylinders. Mike Wallace continues to struggle after missing training camp due to his contract dispute, and the Steelers offensive line is perpetually a work in progress.

The Steelers defense has been good against the run this year, but it did allow Darren McFadden to run wild in Week 3 and Chris Johnson to do the same in Week 6. RG3 and Alfred Morris have proven to be darn-near unstoppable this season on the ground, and I expect the duo to have another big game this week.

On the other side, the Redskins have an excellent run defense, and Jonathan Dwyer won't be coming close to the 100-yard mark against this unit.

RG3's rookie season has been full of amazing performances, and now that he's clicking with Santana Moss, I expect him to have another big game on the road.

Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions

The Seahawks ran into the NFL's best defense last week and only managed six points. Marshawn Lynch did manage to run for over 100 yards against the San Francisco 49ers, though.

He's going to have another monster game in Week 8 against the team that allowed 171 yards on the ground to the Chicago Bears last week.

The biggest reason I'm picking the Seahawks to win this game, though, is that the Detroit Lions offense is as incompetent a unit as I've seen this season. Matthew Stafford has taken five steps backwards in his development, throwing the ball into double coverage on a regular basis and displaying incredibly bad mechanics in the process.

That spells doom against the Seahawks defense—the No. 8-ranked pass defense in the NFL and No. 3-ranked scoring defense in the league (15.1 points per game).

As long as Russell Wilson doesn't try to win the game on his own, the Seahawks running game and stifling defense should carry this team to another big victory.

San Diego Chargers at Cleveland Browns

The Chargers aren't going to make the playoffs unless they start playing with some urgency in the second half—even with a big lead.

Norv Turner's tepid attitude cost his team the game last week against the Denver Broncos, but thankfully for his struggling team, the Browns aren't going to pose much of a challenge.

With Trent Richardson ailing from an injury to his ribs, there's a good chance he's not going to be a huge factor in this game. Even if he does play, the Chargers front seven is a stout unit that has a good chance of shutting him down.

Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates, Ryan Mathews and the Chargers offense is much more potent than the one on the other side of the field, and given the Browns struggles against the pass this season (No. 26 in the NFL), the outcome of this game should never be in question.
